001. [ HOLO ] arrival

Aug 22, 2009 04:49

Helen watched the ceiling of the elevator. Her fingers drummed on the daily roster in her hands as she waited for her destined floor. Things had certainly taken a turn for the worst as of late. Having clinically died and returned thanks to Will's brilliant plan in the submarine was something she never wanted to relive. Now she understood what had ( Read more... )

[Oh, look, more new arrivals. Dean sounds groggy when he answers.]

Taxon, sweetheart. Or Boringville, if you're looking for a better name.

[ Well, it doubles as a regular phone. Helen holds it to her ear as a regular phone. ]

Taxon. It certainly isn't something from Old City.

And Old City would be... what?

The eldest part of New York, of course. It is where my base of operations is at.

"You're not in Kansas anymore, I can tell you that much," Sylar drawled. He didn't know why he was going out of his way to greet this many people. Perhaps it was because that the shop was practically empty and made him think far too much. Or maybe it was because it was some way to get out the aggression that was building in him from being trapped in a place that he could do nothing about. At least, when he had been held captive before, there had been a chance to rectify that situation. Here, there was nothing that he could see to be done about it except sit back and try and figure out some way to accept his fate. And prodding at the people in the same situation was certainly one way to do that. He'd have to learn to live with them, somehow. Wonderful ( ... )

That was certainly unexpected. She quirked her head back at the holographic image. A highly advanced piece of technology that was, according to the man, her own. Certainly odd, she had to agree. Allowing your prisoners to speak to once another in an attempt to escape. Helen certainly found herself in the worse situations imaginable.

"I see. Thank you for the information." She turned to look around the room again. "Certainly not a large welcoming committee. Going through all this trouble to acquire my person, surgically attach a metal bracelet and then leave a cellphone. They seem to be able to pull the stops out except introducing themselves. Perhaps they're a little shy."

Then she returned her attention to the device in her hand. "Do you have any other information about this place? Anything you could spare would be brilliant."

Shy? Shy? Of all of the things to say, that would have been the last that Sylar would have expected out of anyone. "Or they're just observing us from whatever sort of covert spot they've picked out to get the best information," Sylar said, a quiet surprise gracing his features as he started as the hologram of the other woman. There wasn't any information that suggested that they meant them any harm, after all. They had been provided with places to stay, everything that they could need, even reminders of home. The only logical conclusion that he could draw from that was that they were being studied and observed. For whatever reason, though, had yet to come to light.

"I only just recently arrived myself, but the main thing that you probably need to know is that the city is called Taxon, and it's divided into four separate areas. You should have a map that you can call up."

"A map? How resourceful of them."

Helen turned the tablet in her hands. A few moments later she found the feature the man was speaking about. Indeed it was a city divide into four districts. A slight frown tugged at her features. They had called this the Sanctuary? Hardly the name she expected to hear. The Sanctuary was her father's design. A true sanctuary.

"Quite a city. Very large. I wonder what exactly it is they plan to do with us now that we are their honored guests." She turned her attention to the hologram again. "I've been rather rude, I apologize. Speaking to you without a proper introduction. I am Dr. Helen Magnus."

Oh look, here's Gwen providing more helpful, comforting welcomes to the new arrivals.

"I think you got the 'hell' part, right, honey. Except it's called Taxon, if no one else has told you already."

"I have been informed of it. Though I don't see how this equates to any mythological versions of hell."

She shrugs. "Actually, I was just being dramatic. If you like hatching out anything and everything you want? You'll get along just fine."

It's just not her cup of tea.

"I cannot say I'm too fond of such things." Helen returned her attention to the tablet.

It's practical, I suppose. A way to interact with our surroundings. Possibly collect data, I haven't done much looking into it.

Nor has many others it would seem.

Dr. Helen Magnus. A pleasure, I merely wish the circumstances of our meeting were of a better timing and place.

Fred had been there for a couple hours again today, this time with two laptops that were linked together, and was half-buried in a panel she had gotten off the wall, peering around inside of it, connecting various things to the laptop and generally accomplishing very little.

When she heard a voice she poked her head out of the panel, thinking someone was stopping by to remind her to eat again, when she realized it was coming from the big metal arrival room.

She hauled herself to her feet, brushing imaginary dust of her pants as she headed over to the door at the bottom of the steps that led up to the spot where people appeared, poking her around around the corner to peer at the woman who had just showed up.

"Uh...Hey there!" She said with a slightly shy smile, mostly still hiding in the hallway, except for her head and shoulders and one waving hand.

Helen paused as she heard the voice call out to her. Slowly she turned to find the young woman calling out to her. Hiding behind the wall as if she were a small child. It brought a smile to her face as she remembered the days when Henry and Ashley would do the same. Though Ashley hardly acted like a normal little girl.

"Hello." She folded her hands in front of her.

"Did you just arrive?" She asked, without actually coming any further into the room. "I didn't hear anybody else comin' in after me, is why I ask, 'cause the footsteps in here echo all over, but my head was pretty far into that console so I..." She trailed off, seemingly realizing she's rambling, and just smiles weakly.

"I did, actually. Don't worry, you have hardly missed anything. If anything at all." Helen offered and smile and stood in front of her. "Do you live here, in this building?"
