I have a feeling it's going to be in Dragonship Haven again. The buzz on the DSH list was that TRH requested Baron Adhemar to put in a bid, which has since gone to planning stages.

We shall all go to 12th night with fancy smancy clothes.

It's too bad you don't know anyone who casts in pewter. And is planning on making a lot of viking designs for Birka.

Yup, it's a darn shame you don't know anyone like that. ;)

If I knew someone like that, which obviously I don't, but if I did, might that someone be making award medallions or turtle brooches? And if this theoretical someonewas making these things, do you think he would be willing to sell me some before Birka, since 12th Night is usually before then?

But (cue dramatic sigh) I don't know anyone like that. What a shame.

In a random alternate universe where someone like that did exist, obviously purely speculative, the chance of such things as maunche medallions and brooches being available by 12th night would be quite high.

I don't know if she documented it or not, but the Queen of Caid @ Pennsic, Sir Kolfinna, was observed wearing a nifty applique'd Viking apron dress. You might consider asking her about it... she has lots of web presence and is easy to find, even if she has stepped down by now.

She doesn't step down until November.

And if you find the Coronation pictures online (they're in the lj community SCA, from jjmackinnon), if you catch His Maj from the rearview, you'll see the applique on the lower skirt of his bright green tunic.

He sits on Thor's Hammer.

Well. There's a brave man...

Well, there is this little catchphrase going around the mundane world... "It's Hammer Time!"

I have to say, we didn't have the courage to ask HRM about it. Too much giggling.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't borrow my silver brooches. Even if I did decide to wear viking to 12th Night I could just borrow your bronze ones.

Fabric Fix had a pale ivory light-weight wool over the summer. They might still have it. If not, it's possible you could persuade me to part with the 5 yards of it I have stashed away, for sufficient recompense in barter.....

I'll have to go take a look and see what they have. I just came up with this idea the other night; I haven't had a chance to pull my act together to go look at Fabric Fix.

"What is Fabric Fix?" she asks quietly hoping Goldsquare will not hear and point out that piles of projects in process or next in line are spilling out of several large bins already...

Oh, I don't think you'd be interested... it's just a little hole in the wall fabric shop in Manchester NH with linen for $5-8/yard and wool for $4-6/yard. You know, lovely, yummy, period-appropriate stuff. Nothing interesting about it at all. X-)

They're used to SCAdians coming in, too, which is cool. They're at 45 Blaine St, Manchester, NH 03102, (603) 668-7105. I did find my white wool, but at a different store. I found it at Martin's House of Cloth, on the remnant table -- 6 and 1/8 yards for $5 a yard. I have enough to make a dress for me and maybe a tunic for Wolfie, plus my bears!

'Spensive, very 'spensive. But I've OHGODOHGODOHGOD groped fondled their work up close and personal at a past GWW, and it's just BEAUTIFUL.

Oh, I SAW those. Droooool.

Also, http://www.jelldragon.com/viking_brooches.htm

I saw these at Pennsic; they're carried by a vendor from Europe called Viking-U-Like. They're just as gorgeous in person. I bought my little gripping bear from them this year, because who could resist that face? (http://www.jelldragon.com/viking_pendants.htm -- scroll about 1/3 down.)
