I've been reading several books that I'm hoping will help me deal better with Gavin and be a more effective parent for him. These are "Taming Your Spirited Child", "Parenting Your Spirited Child", and "Parents, Kids, and Power Struggles ( Read more... )

aw, hun, that's FANTASTIC! I'm so happy for you two. :) :) :)

You may also want to check out Naomi Aldort's Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves. I need to look through it again, myself. It really made a lot of sense to me, but is one of those books that would work best with a verbal child.

I was a little shocked by how well it worked. I mean, he's only four so sometimes I make cool activities and then they don't go the way I planned because he's just not interested, LOL. But it went about as perfect as it could have gone. :)

I figure $8 is a reasonable amount right now, he can buy 2-4 books with that. As he gets older we'll increase it a bit.

Cool - glad things are working out so well!

And I have very fond memories of that Scholastic Book Club from when I was a kid. I'd save up my allowance in anticipation of the catalogue and order tons of books...

LOL, me too! Candy never had a chance against getting more books. :) I think I was stupidly excited the first time the community centre program sent home a Scholastic pamphlet with Moo last year, LOL.
