I am made of parenting win

I've been reading several books that I'm hoping will help me deal better with Gavin and be a more effective parent for him. These are "Taming Your Spirited Child", "Parenting Your Spirited Child", and "Parents, Kids, and Power Struggles ( Read more... )

Aw, you're the best. <3 Yeah, I just needed new skills. :) Can't build a wooden house if all you've got is welding tools, yk?

And you are smart enough to know that, which is why I never once doubted your mothaskillz. It's an advantage you have over a whole lot of other people.

This is true. I only beat my head into the wall for so long before I change tactics, whereas most people seem to get to the point of being flat-faced and bleeding before they're willing to try something different. ;)

I had lost all faith in parenting in this age and time, after I read this. I happily have some faith.

I applaud you for parenting you child, instead of being like oh so many parents who let the internet, educate their children.

If only there was more responsible parents like yourself who take the time to spend time with their kids and educate them at home.

There's a fair number of good parents out there, who are trying to learn healthy parenting strategies, do their best by their kids, and raise happy, well-adjusted people. The problem is that the bad parents (and the results of the bad parents) are much, much more noticeable. :/

It's a challenge with Gavin because he is a really bright, persistent, determined child. But I have to keep reminding myself that even though that makes parenting a lot trickier, it's still a very _good_ thing - that if he's taught to use his powers for good rather than mischief, he can go really far in life. And ultimately that's the goal, raising a child who has the skills to achieve whatever they want in a positive way, and who also has the desire to achieve.
