Airport security, profiling and saving money.

The recent internet kerfluffle over body-scanners and molester-guards has raised once again the question of racial profiling. I say "internet kerfluffle" because that is exactly what it was. Internet junkies and activists worked up the froth and bubble and... and then nothing. This is because we tend to get confused between The Internets and Real ( Read more... )

Of course it doesn't neccessarily mean that one advocates it. It just necessarily means that logic takes its own course, regardless of our arbitrary objections. The argument follows its own end, and heeds no silly personal objections like "Well I didn't mean that!"

This is serious business. A Muslim Arab showing up at an airport is just like a red car speeding down the freeway after robbing a bank. Christ, why don't you understand?

Profiling can only refer to one thing, and that's bad! So we should allow it! Also, I don't understand Arabic so I feel like I'm missing out on a joke!

If it is effective and if we should use it, why then shouldn't we just use the way more effective and way more cheap policy of banning Muslims from flying? You're concerned about effectiveness and security, right? And you want to save time, money and hassle? Just don't let Muslims fly then.

You may have underestimated the scope of the issue. I think we need to ban the species from flying.

If humans were meant to fly, they would have been born with wings?

Speaking as one who was (and is) irritated by the TSA kerfluffle, I fully expected the public to accept pornscans and groping. The fact that they had many of the scanners turned off during the Thanksgiving rush was a smart move - no scans, no problem.

I don't care what they do for 'airline security'. It's largely a sham.

Officer: "Excuse me Sir, we have to establish if you're Muslim".
Muslim: "No, i'm not Muslim".
Officer: "Could you provide evidence for not being a Muslim, Sir?"
Muslim: "Sure. I totally dont have my Quran with me on my hand baggage. Is that enough?"
Officer: "No turbans?"
Muslim: "Um, nope."
Officer: "I see your wife also doesnt wear a headscarf. Good."
Muslim: "Yep, and Aisha has no hijab, no burqa, no nothing. Now, can i go?"
Officer: "Do you speak any Arabic?"
Muslim: "I dont know a single word in Arabic. I speak only American."
Officer: "Perfect. Here are your documents, Sir. Have a nice flight."
(Muslim, departing together with Aisha)...
Aisha: "هؤلاء الحراس هم أغبياء جدا ، يا عزيزي. يمكن الآن أن أتمكن من إزالة قنبلة من فتحة الشرج الخاص بي؟"
Muslim: ".نعم"

Everything's gotta be formal. Get it black-in-white, and its all right. I forgot to mention they'd be also required to fill a form. In two copies. Each.
