My point was that the ability to find an exception does not a disproval of a general statement make. Moreover, most attempts to turn "punk" into a strict ideology are pretty much born to fail. It's a style of music, a dress sense, a culture. None of these demand political orthodoxy. Heck, I can point out Adam Baldwin as a right-wing actor. Does this mean Hollywood is right-wing?

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronald Reagan, and Charlton Heston. That seems good enough by Mr. Potocin's standards.

Rockstars aren't gods, Steve. Liver-and-pancreas-damaged dope addicts who've spent so much time in front of Marshall stacks that they're stone deaf and their entire ganglionic system resembles traffic in Beijing at rush hour still don't make decisions any better than anyone else. An idiot who doesn't know what socialism is, is still an idiot even if their name has appeared on a record label. A useless jagoff who remained stonily quiet during the entire Bush administration and only now is noticing that our country has been spent into irretrievable debt is still a useless jagoff whether they can play a guitar (incredibly badly) or not.

Moe Tucker never did heavy drugs....only played in songs about them....know who did lots of drugs though?...many of the dumbass Left-Wing hippies

Steve, if Moe didn't do dope he was in an enormous minority. All of the other members of Velvet Underground were notorious junkies and incidentally, so were Iggy Pop and David Bowie and probably all the rest of your list.

Nah man! When Lou Reed was shooting up "China White", Moe Tucker was shooting saline. When Bowie was hitting the Vodka, Iggy was shooting back water with a ginger-ale back!

And as for your massive list there, any wish to elucidate why all but 3 of them choose to live in socialist European countries when they are all rich enough to live wherever they like?

Oh and I'm calling out your Alice Cooper. Alice is a pragmatic intellectual, not a shrieking Teabagger.

I'm calling out most of that list, actually.

But hey, it was fun.

Alice Cooper is a Registered Republican....he rightfully called out the dumbass rock stars who supported Kerry in 2004 as "treasonous morons"....

Why do you feel that was a "rightful" statement?

Joey Ramone was a liberal.

Also, I think you may be mixing up David J. Bowie with Ziggy Stardust...

steve_potocin October 6 2010, 23:38:44 UTC
nope...David Bowie the Thin White Duke declared himself "right-wing" back in the 70s....

In the '70s.

Really. You know he's British, right?

Also, "in the early 1970s [Bowie] suggested Britain could benefit from a fascist government and that, in his opinion, Adolf Hitler was 'the first superstar'."

Woah.

He made a post... maybe a few weeks to a month ago a lot like this, shooting off of the "one of the Ramones is a Republican!!1!" thing, which magically disappeared within a few hours.

It was magically removed because it had just a pic and a line or two.
