So many people are so afraid of offending, 'minorities,' that any white scapegoat that they can focus on will do. This situation is no different.

No it's not. I do agree with what they're saying, though.

Suppose I were a skinhead and argued for white supremacy and that a small group of Jews control the world banking system and that Jews are vermin. Would you think it acceptable for someone to denounce me as being comparable to the Nazis or would you argue "I don't agree with people making comparisons between mijopo and the Nazi's because it's simply stupid. mijopo isn't killing millions of people in the name of ethnic or racial cleansing ( ... )

Or we could just skip the Nazi-comparison meme and make direct moral arguments for our positions.

Why? It's useful. All politics is emotional as well as logical. "Identity checking reduces the friction toward deeper discrimination" is a powerful moral argument; Nazi Germany serves as a logically and emotionally potent illustration.

Because it sets up a false moral standard, and that if we are "not like the Nazis", then we are ok.

It's funny how they always get upset when we call them communists but then they pass out flyers...

Well the communists are communists. Most have it in their name or use Socialist in the original sense. But no, the various communist groups that show up to every damn rally are not representative of most on the left.

Just like how the few racists that show up to Tea Party rallies are not representative. See how that works?

Really? How much press did this rally get compared teaparties?

Nobody takes communism seriously in the US.

Yhe only swastika I saw had a cross through it (as in "Dont use swastikas.")

Prayer is not American. Saying the pledge of allegiance does not make you American.

There was a comparison between the recent Arizona laws and the KKK, not teapartiers.

The voiceover was very creepy and actually worse than the rally itself. Perhaps you could find a video of the actual event with an actual reporter.

If you're talking about the sign at 0:43, it says "Say No To SB 1070". The sign is alluding that Arizona (because they passed SB 1070) is like a Nazi government. Stop acting like you don't know that.

Saying the pledge of allegiance does not make you American.

Maybe not, but it's done at most events in the United States.

Oh, I'm so sorry that facts scared you. *eye roll*

You fail to recognize propaganda when you see it. The entire video was a strawman.

Socialists and Communists are not Americans. Real Americans say prayers and sing patriotic songs. It didn't scare me, it creeped me out that there is a segment of the US population that actually believes this to be reasonable.

Girlie, Republican legislators not only don't denounce not-even-veiled threats of firearm use and other seditious acts at Tea Party demonstrations, they EMBRACE them. Get back to us when something like that happens and then we'll tell you when it's time for Nancy Fucking Pelosi to even give any recognition whatsoever to jackasses that try to hijack civil-rights protests. Until then, go read a book or something.

I'll omit your little condescending remark. I'd LOVE for you to give me some examples of Republicans embracing revolution and open bloodshed in the streets the way the people did in those fliers they were handing out.

The bottom line is OMG COMMUNISTS WTF THERE ARE COMMUNISTS HERE yes, this is the United States of America; people are allowed to believe what they like, and they are allowed to show others why they believe that, because this is a free country. The rest of your argument is ridiculous nonsense so please stop wasting everyone's time.

Sorry, but communism is heresy... sophia_sadek May 21 2010, 23:10:23 UTC
... and in America, heresy is a crime. The fact that those people were willing to read those heretical fliers indicated that they should be jailed, flogged, and forced to recant. The people who wrote the fliers should be burned at the stake, according to the dictates of the democratic constitution of Redneckistan.
