"Play Faster! Play FASTER! PLAY..."(maniacal laughter) "FASTER!"

It's interesting to observe, as time goes by, the rise and fall of horrible crazes that cause later generations to shake their heads in wonder at the inhumanity and dumbness of their ancestors. The Drug War is one of these. I can remember the insane anti-drug lectures and films I sat through in high school, showing the deadly effects of "Mary Jane ( Read more... )

To be clear, this isn't what happens when people use marijuana. It's what happens when Nancy Grace is behind a camera.

Hot chortling tears ensued as I watched this searing expose of high school drug use.

You gotta wonder what Helen Hunt thinks of this today.

Soda! SODA! Nancy Grace is just a classic prohibitionist. She woulda been a strong voice to outlaw alcohol a century ago.

hahahah! Cut his mic! I mean, it's not a terribly civil debate. I'm so often disappointed in the people the MPP or other similar groups put up. While he's clearly flabbergasted by a weird line of ad-hominem ("are you paid to do this?!") he should have kept his cool a bit more.

The man was out of control. Probably on the Reefer stuff.

And the appropriate line of reasoning, that I think all marijuana reform groups need to adopt, and strictly adhere to, is:

Ask whoever is against marijuana being legal, if they believe alcohol should be legal. They say "yes" ask them why. Inquire as to if alcohol is harmful, addictive and damaging to the development of the young. Now what are the relevant differences between the two methods of getting intoxicated that means one should be legal and the other illegal.

Case closed.

*edit: Alcohol *can* be harmful. Can be abused.

How does a glass of champaigne on New Years Eve (or 5 glasses of it even) differ from a joint (or five) on NYE?

Champagne is more likely to impair your driving.

After controlling for drug strength, body size and tolerance, totally.

But I bet taxis make a pretty penny NYE. Also, huzzah for mass transit....

Once other states see what Colorado is pulling in for tax revenue, whoa, they'll get those statues changes pronto.

Weren't some stores at risk of running out of marijuana due to the heavy demand?

Wal Mart will want some of *that* action :P

There's a limited number of stores in Colorado that offer retail sales. The rest are still medical only. The State regulates grows - the rooms all have cameras feeding to the state, inspections and testing occur. So short-term limits on product were bound to happen.

California on the other hand, is all city regulated and for places like LA, it's a gang paradise, with tax evasion, ripoffs and underground economy.

True fact: All alcoholics started out drinking milk.

Milk, the gateway drink.

Except that buying milk doesn't put you in contact with an alcohol salesman the way buying illegal marijuana puts you in touch with someone who either sells other illegal drugs or knows someone who does, and may in fact give you free samples.

Alcohol-Related Deaths Kill More Than AIDS, TB Or Violence, WHO Reports

I know you were trying to make some vague, dumb point. But then, reality.

Stupidity is often in the mind of the beholder.

fyi: I was agreeing with you. And the stupid vague point was that making marijuana illegal lead to higher usage of other illegal drugs. You can now of course argue against that because I was the one who said it.
