Oooh I'm lovin this game! Great, great! *rubs hands*

Sooo, if we're to be pulling words out of the whole sentence in order to trigger faux outrage, much the Fox way, I say let's play:

"I've also ... been ... hit ... by dads ... of other ... races ... and Jihadists ... with the largest ... barrels of oil ... Because they wanted ... just to rent... my ... truck ... He went there and drilled ... me ... I applaud ... But he kept on drilling ... I need ... your help!"

Guess who said those words?

1) Donald Duck
2) Some stoned guy on the Internet
3) Mitt Romney at the 2013 CPAC

Your turn!

There is a difference between stringing random words together and a complete sentence without the context, but it's easier to make a "dog whistle" with only one or two words. Thanking you for making my point.

Do you know who said it? Cause I do, and boy, it seems like taking things out of context is a common rhetorical tactic amongst those who don't care about the truth of their message. Go figure.

Is there any practical solution for immigration reform that doesn't include amnesty?

Practical IS the operative word isn't it?
Personally I'm not against the idea of amnesty as part of the solution, just not a blanket amnesty.
My preference would be a literally case by case basis, but that's not only NOT practical but never going to happen.
Iirc even under the blanket amnesty by Reagan people had to apply and I know people who never bothered and remained (and still remain) in the "shadows".

Full disclosure (as if needed ;) ) As a conservative as far as I'm concerned it all has to start with a secure border, as lack of same is what made the Reagan amnesty not work.

Oh, I'm sure there are ample amounts of shitty statements that are outright racist, floating around the public space, to be able to compile a grand turd list, anyway.

1) No. Context matters.
2) Again, context matters.

I don't think the context changes the words, and in my opinion even the meaning YMMV

Frankly, I see it as a not well thought out comment, nothing more, nothing less.

The context obviously changes the words. If you walk in to a bar and tell the first hispanic person you see that he doesn't look like he's from here, it's a big difference then telling people who you already know aren't from the place that they aren't from there.

You know, conservatives going on about self-responsibility would be a lot more believable if they weren't trying to invent every single persecution under the sun to avoid self-responsibility.

In one way knowing the context, where it was said, and all that was said, makes it worse.
The majority of people who work there are not laborers from some other country seeking a better life. I would have to double check with people I know that work there, but my understanding is that they really don't have much in the way of general labor outside of janitorial and cafeteria staff; so he is stereotyping, big difference.

Jeeze louise, he was out here doing fund raising and preaching immigration reform. I gave two examples, there are many more, it's not invented, it's a *shrug* fact.
