He wanted to be sure.

He couldn’t do that to any of them, but especially Dean or Jo. They didn’t deserve to have him say he was done and have it be like the previous time with Ruby. That was cruel and unusual punishment of the worst kind, and he needed to be sure that he was done. And considering he didn’t reach this point the last time around ( Read more... )

Sleep hadn't been easy the past few weeks. The bed that normally felt too small for two people, given Sam's height, felt more than just empty without Sam beside her. What sleep she could manage would be light, with her waking up every few hours, a bit unsure of her surroundings. As she rolled onto her stomach, she took in a deep breath through her nose. Stretching in bed, using her shoulders to push her back up a bit, and pull everything a bit more taut. Her stretch worked down her body, to her toes as she moved onto her side. Propping her head up on her hand she glanced around the darkness of the room, until her eye caught the fact that Sam's bag had been moved. She had been the one to bring him clothing, and she always put things back a certain way. This was not that way, and if something had happened... they should've woken her ( ... )

He didn't hear her knock on the door, but when he heard her voice over the roar of the water, he couldn't help but smile. It'd been a long time since he heard it without the iron wall of the panic room between them, and it was nice to be in a situation, finally, where he could actually reach out and touch her if he wanted to.

He tilted his head back into the water, washing out the last of the shampoo from his eyes, before he poked his head around the corner of the shower curtain, not even bothering to play innocent with her right then. He knew that was probably only going to get him punched, and that wasn't the reaction he was looking for at the moment.

"Yeah?"

She was quickly trying to put toothpaste on the brush, glancing down to it only for a moment so that she got the paste on the bristles, not the handle. When her eyes met the mirror again she grinned, seeing him actually looking good. More than good, he looked like himself again and it had really been a long time since she'd seen that. All those months of him having record highs paired with the bottom of lows, it was really good to see him - just as Sam. Nothing on his back pushing him forward, nothing clouding his eyes and making him see something she didn't understand.

Shoving the toothbrush into her mouth she turned around and pressed her hand to his cheek, the damp of his skin hitting her palm as she just looked at him. Letting her hand slip from his features she started to brush her teeth, "You should've woken me."

"I smelled like a garbage truck," he said with a bit of a smirk as he looked back at her. "Was gonna wake you up when I was feeling remotely human again."

He knew that she probably wouldn't have cared, but he hadn't had a real shower in weeks, it felt like. He wasn't going to subject her to that -- he didn't really consider that entirely fair.
