I haven't watched the episode...just perusing all the unhappy comments. But yours....this is just the best thing ever, making up for the episode I might not watch anyway.
It's cool -- different perspectives help keep us all grounded and give food for thought. I wasn't cool with many of Sam's choices, but I can understand how the other side of the coin looks too, and do plan on giving that some more thought (and rewatch will hopefully help me sort out my thoughts some more too). And hey, we do both agree that they are both being stupid, so there's that. ;)
I'm struggling to get over the cruelty of Dean knowingly using Amelia being in danger as a ruse to lure Sam out. Especially after everything Dean when through with Lisa; after what Sam went through with Madison, and Jess. I can't imagine what was going through Sam's head on the drive from LOUISIANA to TEXAS. (I've driven that before, trust me, it is an insufferably long drive. :P ) I just ... yeah. No.
It was the writers I wanted to wack with a spoon. There were several instances where I don't think they considered the characters, who the characters were talking to, and the actual consequences of the actions characters took, because they wanted something to make the narrative coherent. Like Dean's distrust of Martin was solely based on his institutionalization, despite the fact that his brother and best friend had also been institutionalized (arguably when they were further gone), and he was talking to said brother

I know, sweetie! I can give Sam a pass for the handcuffs thing because you know he knew all they'd do was slow Dean down. But, what Dean did was premeditated and manipulative. Things he would have been all over Sam fierce in his self-righteousness before.
Plus, through both of their actions, they got Martin killed. It really is too dangerous to know the Winchesters.
