I finally got around to watch the movie The Village. And my, does the trailer ever give the wrong impression.

Oh god, The Village. Terrible movie. Maybe it would have worked as a 30-minute Twilight Zone episode, but that's it. M. Night Shymalan needs to stop relying on "shocking" twist endings to sell his films and get a new shtick.

Why did the original settlers have to create their own village? Why couldn't they just become Amish? Oh wait, because then the plot doesn't work, that's why.

The settlers' reasoning made no sense. Did they really believe that no one was ever murdered in the 1800s? Or that money was literally the root of all evil? Dumb, dumb people.

Are they telling me that only the mentally disabled would ever commit a crime?The way I interpreted it, the point the movie was trying to make with Noah was that wickedness and violence can still exist without "evil" things like money, drugs, and guns. That's why the Village failed as a concept (and why it was so galling to see the town elders continue the lie even after they were proved wrong). I don't think the "mentally disabled = evil" connection was intentional, but an ( ... )

Like you said it made no sense and only exists to fool the viewers. I mean, they could have made a little village like that, but there was no reason for the old style clothes or way of speaking (Mr Walker was especially annoying because he overdid it so much). I mean, no one speaks slang or even swears in this town, that's just unrealistic.
