House

This is my statement on my future involvement in the House Fandom, because everybody else is doing it because I think it's high time I let the House people on my f-list know what the deal is.

It's a testament to how much I like the way you think and enjoy your LJ that I am stubbrnly refusing to defriend you, despite the fact that I hate Doctor Who. Shine on, you crazy diamond!

You hate Doctor Who.

...

I might have to defriend you.

Lol noo. I'm tolerant and all, right? xD But seriously, what do you hate about Doctor Who? It's really brilliant television. The only thing I could think of why you might not like it is that you're generally not too much into scifi. Is it that?

Your last sentence. It sounds like a line from a song. xD \o/

Oh, I don't want to upset you. So I'll just condense it down and say I think it's an over-acted, lazily written, poorly produced, dully plotted, mind-numbingly uninvolving piece of TV-lite, typical of superficial, cheesy BBC ratings-grabbers, and unworthy of serious consideration. Phew. Glad to get that off my chest.

And I just don't like sci-fi anyway.

Please can we still be friends? ;D

Shine On, You Crazy Diamond is apparently a Pink Floyd song. I wondered where it came from. I think I heard it on The Simpsons :D

over-acted
Yeah. I give you that. But that's sci-fi. That's how it works.

lazily written, dully plotted
Either you had really bad luck concerning which episodes you saw, or you've never watched it. Because compared to House, Doctor Who writing and plotting is more than brilliant. And that's my objective opinion, since I don't mind fangirling a show that's badly written (i. e. House or even SPN, lol xD). You should watch Blink one of these days.

poorly produced
You are only talking about New Who, are you? Because saying that a show that's been running since 1963 was poorly produced from the first minute till the last, that's a bit... generalizing? Yeah, I guess.

I guess it really comes down to not liking sci-fi. Because if you don't like sci-fi, I can see how you would hate Doctor Who.

If you do like sci-fi, though, you can't really get past it. It is a mile stone in that genre.

Please can we still be friends?Hmm, I'm thinking about it. I guess yeah, as long as you admit that it's your general aversion to sci-fi that makes you ( ... )

I'll happily admit that. All sci-fi dialogue comes across as overblown and cringey. Not that stops it being enjoyable, I suppose, but I couldn't take it seriously. Again, not that being unable to take it seriously is necessarily a barrier to enjoyment, but the idea that anyone could still be thinking about it after the credits roll is alien to me ;D ( ... )

Okay, I was going to reply to this in a wink-wink-nudge-nudge-let's-agree-to-disagree manner, but then you wrote that last sentence, and sorry, I can't just let this pass. Because, you know, this is exactly what everybody in RL is doing wrong about fandom and modern media.

I went very tl;dr on you in this comment, and LJ won't let me post it because it's too long. I made a post about it. I hope you'll take the time to read, but if you'd rather just drop this, I can live with that, too ;).

Post will be up in a second, gotta turn it from a comment into a proper LJ entry first.

ETA: Here it is.
