NaNoWriMo has been relaunched and people can now sign on to participate. I know it's a bit early, but, if you're planning on doing it, you might want to sign up before the rush starts in October ( Read more... )

DH would be a MAJOR undertaking. There are so many problems with that book that I wish JKR would have held off and done it right instead of releasing the book that dare I say it was boring, slow, wrong. I like the idea of someone trying to make it right but is a month the kind of pressure you want? The whole idea of a month to write a book is so crazy to me. Probably because I suck at outlining and everything I write goes off from where I thought it should go.

What ever your decision I will read it and you have my utmost respect for attempting it.

There are so many problems with that bookThere are. Which is why I would cut out a good portion of it and focus on things that she hinted at but chose not to develop or sort wrote but horribly short-changed. Like all the adult characters ( ... )

Your focus on DH sounds exciting and as a history major with a concentration on WWII I love your parallels. I will admit I have only made it through DH once. I set it aside and have never been able to go back to it. Of course the 5th book was not my favorite until the movie came out and then I liked it better because I skipped over some of the stupid crap she put in.

I don't think I could ever specialize in WWII history. Not just because it was war but because it showed that absolute darkness and depravity human kind is able to produce ( ... )

Seems like its alot on your plate. Taking on something challenging sounds fun but you don't wanna drive yourself nuts. On the other hand something you know could go a little but more smoother. Hmm... wich to go with...

Wow I was not a help at all was i? lol.

Seems like its alot on your plate.

The longish fics will keep. Some of them I've been hacking away at for years. I'm more centered on getting The Mask done before my readers drag out the pitchforks the close of the year.

I decided to do NaNo because it doesn't give me time to do what normally delays my writing -- editing too much, doubting myself and my abilities, internal editorializing as I'm writing, and focusing on things other than writing. It gives me a very strict deadline and feeds the well-buried competitive nature inside me. In other words, it's the kick in the pants I need to get out of my writing funk. Hopefully.

Wow I was not a help at all was i?

No you totally were. I'm the type of person that has to talk things out before I come to any major decision. You did bring up a valid point -- rewriting DH would be a huge undertaking that probably wouldn't be finished come December.

*sighs*

Wow, you really are toying with some very interesting writing challenges.

I've outlined my original fic and hope to complete it (or most of it) by Nov. 30th.

Good luck making your selection.

I love seeing the progress you've made on The Mask.

I'm mental. I know. LOL!

The seer!Gus idea was one I've had for awhile. It goes back to my sci-fi/fantasy roots but it's grounded by a more normal setting.

The kidnapped!Gus fic speaks to my darker side, and the Harry Potter one is for the fan girl who was so horrified by the craptastic ending. (Imagine how you could have felt if Brian had run off with Michael to get married or declared himself straight at the end of QAF and you'd be right where I was horror-wise at the end of book seven.)

I've outlined my original fic and hope to complete it (or most of it) by Nov. 30th.

You've already got the whole thing started!?1!

O_o

WOW.Just wow ( ... )

No zombies. LOL That was severina's domain.

I decided to have a woman as the protagonist and it's about her adventure in finding herself and following her true desires when she discovers her best friend in bed with her husband. The adventure takes her from Conn. to South Beach to NYC.

No zombies? Shucks.

I suppose your character could be worse off; she could have found her husband in bed with a man. Or several men.

Of course, if my Hypothetical Husband did that to me, I'd cut the crotches out of all his pants, load the lot of it into his car, and set it all on fire.

I'd also drain the entire bank account, shift it all to one in the Cayman Islands where he couldn't get his hands on it, and fly down to one of those Central or South American countries where there's no extradition.

That or I'd channel my inner Velma Kelly.

Maybe that's why I'm not married yet. LOL!

You should, of course, do what will make you happy, but know you've got a QaF story reader in me!

Some really fascinating ideas you are thinking about. It all sounds very interesting.Sure you can't do both the Gus ones and the DH one? LOL!

Good luck with trying to decide what to do. :)

Lovely to hear about where you are at with "The Mask".
