Tag limit added to El of Jay

Dec 01, 2007 19:43

Another change to EL of Jay:

Every LJ and comm now only has a 1,000 tag maximum. While I seriously doubt I will ever have that many in my personal LJ, it's not hard to imagine that comms like bjfic will hit that allotment soon if every multi-chaptered story is given its own tag in addition to those for the author(s).

bjfic has almost 600 tags now. i'm not sure what will happen to the tag system there once that happens, but at another community that I looked after the tagging on.... had to delete about 300 tags...

Perhaps using tags just for author's names?

It's not ideal I know, but something will have to be done. Not to mention that some people just use fake cuts at comms. I know I do. Perhaps that way writers can tag using their series/chapter work title at their own LJ and save 'extra' tags for the comms.

The only other option I can see is using genre, or, in more general comms, pairing tags.

all good ideas. i was thinking probably might delete authors' series tags whom (?) are no longer active?

oh, I'd hate to have to do that.

I'd just delete all the title tags and leave just the author ones.

After all, if someone wants a previous chapter post, it'll be within the first couple (if not the next) post in the line when the author name's tag is called up. Not to mention the fact that polite authors also take the time to post links to previous chapters.
