“The Line” - Alicia is adamant in her refusal to run for State’s Attorney despite Eli’s attempts to persuade her to launch a campaign. Meanwhile, as Diane considers joining Florrick/Agos as partner, an internal crisis threatens to destroy the firm.

But this is sad-amusing in the meantime:

Guise, the Kings had NO IDEA people were keeping track that A/K hadn't had scenes together! They are just trying to show REALITY. But they think maybe the two will have scenes together. Someday. Maybe. But REALITY comes first.

Oh how I've missed breakfast club! I've been on TGW hiatus all summer in hopes that I'd have some new perspective when I came back (alas, not much new), but I'm glad we're back ( ... )

I loved the ep. When I get frustrated with the big picture, like I did in S4 or S5, I sometimes forget how very, very good the show is at craft. This whole story was put together so well, and has so many possible outcomes that are weird, and complex, and interesting. Kalinda had a lot to do that was in character and made sense. (Also, how the hell did Kelli Giddish fit this into her schedule, seriously? But I'm so glad to see her here!) We're honestly doubting everyone's motivation and words. These are all really good things. How long before Cary's situation hits Peter? And are we really likely to see Alicia and Kalinda in a room?

just phone conversations between Alicia and Kalinda - but I did laugh very hard when watching the scene with Diane and Alicia. It just felt so much like meta from the Kings to JM, that they really can't keep Kalinda over at LGC anymore when that firm no longer has Alicia, Cary and Will and soon no longer will have Diane.

Alicia scrambles to hold onto Florrick/Agos’ biggest client as the firm continues to struggle with an internal legal crisis. Meanwhile, Diane continues to plot her move from Lockhart/Gardner and looks for partners to bring with her to the new firm.

So I will have more collected thoughts on the actual episode later, maybe, but for now I just want to note the heartbreak in our home when Kalinda and Diane were talking to Cary with their backs to the camera and, because our television color is shit and really dark, my wife cried out excitedly "They're in the same room, Kalinda and Alicia are in the same room!" Because Diane's hair looked like Alicia's at a glance. Oh, the wild jump and then the fall of our hearts! :P But I have to tell you, I hadn't realized exactly how resigned I'd become to them never being in a room together ever again until my complete shock at the idea that that was actually happening. Seriously, what do other people think the odds are of it ever happening again?

Ha, I *wish* an A/K scene felt like possibility enough for me to be tricked that way! :) I was busy eyerolling that the one time Kalinda was sitting in on Cary's proceedings, Diane was there arguing his case rather than Alicia. What a coincidence! Structural barriers! Reality! All of that ( ... )

Negative Nelly.

I mean this is a completely and utterly valid point and totally what RK is gonna let happen.

But seriously. SAD.

I was catching up on last week's Firewall and Iceberg podcast, in which Alan Sepinwall and Dan Fienberg pontificate about television. (It's a really good podcast, actually.) They're not enormous Good Wife fans, although they respect certain things about the show. Anyway, they reviewed the premiere, and here's a transcription of the bit that interests us (if you want to hear the whole thing, which is worth listening to, here's the link. The Good Wife stuff starts at 53:25):

****
Dan: Also, if you take Diane and Kalinda out of Lockhart Gardner and put them in Florrick Agos, is that going to mean that Archie Panjabi and Julianna Margulies are going to have to appear in a scene together?
Alan: Yeah, well, Kalinda could just be out in the field the whole time. I’m sure they have already come up with scenarios to avoid whatever awkwardness is currently going on between Margulies and Panjabi.
Dan: Or whatever whatever is going on . . .
Alan: Yes.
Dan: I don’t know, it could just be unresolved sexual tension. I don’t know what it is.

Good to know.

I think as far as Jamie is concerned, Dan's on the money.

It's kind of a big deal, because it's the first time that anyone has explicitly called out the Margulies/Panjabi thing in the mainstream media. This could get interesting . . .

HE IS.

So if we're right (WE ARE) that JM is behind the Kalinda/Kalicia/Archie drought, there are only three possible options about why.

1. Archie truly did something terrible to JM (slept with her husband, insulted her mother, spit in her coffee), OR has such an objectionable personality that JM cannot tolerate her.

VERDICT: Implausible. Archie is universally known as a sweetheart; if she were that terrible you'd think we'd have caught wind of it.

2. JM is a raging narcissist and cannot cope with sharing the spotlight with an actor/character she has deemed unworthy of its own popularity.

VERDICT: Plausible. There are rumors of diva-hood and some evidence.

3. JM is in love with Archie and must avoid her like the plague to avoid falling into her arms.

VERDICT: Slightly less plausible than 2., BUT OH SUCH MUCH MORE SATISFYING OF AN EXPLANATION. So I'm going with it.

"Dear God" -- Cary’s freedom lies in the hands of his pretrial service officer, Joy Grubick, as she interviews his colleagues to determine whether or not he should remain behind bars. Meanwhile, Alicia and Dean find themselves in unfamiliar territory when a client’s case ends up in Christian Arbitration,

Wilson! (XPPP)

I love that Alicia & Grace bonded over using the bible in court.

And now I just want Alicia to run to get rid of Castro. He's got some serious mental issues going on there. He just has no filter and is a smary bastard and I can't stand him anymore. Alicia's dreaming was a bit weird, but it will be so satisfying for her to beat him. It'd be great if after she wins, she does an interview & releases the fact that she only ran because he kept being a creepo and she needed him to shut up.

And I need less Kalinda/Cary scenes like those spliced into the beginning. For me that was not nice. I want them to be just friends again. I just want everyone to be just friends again, let's put sexual relationships on hold, and get settled again. (See, I was quite happy with Alicia's & Finn's bantering. No sex, just friendly banter. Please keep it that way!)

The SA campaign plotline will be a very, very good way to keep Alicia away from Kalinda, I think. Sigh. Unless the suspicion that Kalinda is running death threats for Bishop tarnishes Alicia's campaign. I would like that. But it won't happen. Because stupid stupid stupidity.

This episode was excellent and Joy was excellent (and joyless!) and I know they'll find thoughtful clever ways to make the plotline work, but they will shortchange Kalinda and the wonderful things that Archie Panjabi does using only her eyes (SERIOUSLY SHE IS SO GOOD AT THAT).

On the one hand, Michael Cerveris is very good at being evil!Castro and on the other hand, his evil arrived suddenly, because they needed a bad guy, and I'm a little annoyed with that.
