Seasons 1 and 2 rewatchjoroxxxApril 29 2014, 03:14:11 UTC
I really wish the kings would do a rewatch of seasons 1 and 2 like I am right now and remember just how AWESOME the show was that I fell in love with compared to the show it is right now which I am having trouble appreciating anything about!!! It seems like a travesty that such potential has been squandered ... what could have been :(

Ah, S1-3, if I only would have known what we had.
I have this theory that all tv series have a high probability of long-term disappointment because showrunners are far more worried about stagnation than they are about making fans upset/mad (mad implies that they are still invested), so whatever it was that made you love the series in the first place will almost certainly be blown up later for the sake of excitement and "keeping things fresh." It has gotten to the point where if I REALLY love something about a show -- a certain character arc or relationship -- my first thought is "don't get used to it," because I know TPTB would rather piss me off than be predictable.

So i'm living in the past of livejournal posts, rewatching all episodes of TGW and your comment above is soooo true, with 1 exception the X-Files, although the last season or 2 were sort of disappointments at the time and I stopped watching out of pissed-off-ness about Mulder leaving, i now have them all on dvd and love them pretty much almost all the same ... but back to the topic on hand, god is it painful to watch any episode of TGW knowing what we know now, and now the inevitable brick wall we are heading for ... dammit!!

I started doing a rewatch a while ago and rapidly became too depressed by the fact that all that Kalicia was so wonderful and was going to disappear.
If they'd never had the S3 reconciliation and reestablished the friendship for half of S4 I think I might have dealt with all this better. It's just so clear that what's going on has NOTHING to do with the story the Kings were planning to tell.
I agree with everything you said. Jamie. And I feel so bad for AP, it is kinda offensive how Finn is this major character and Kalinda regresses to Spear Carrier again.
The best thing about this week's epi is the title of your post!
I appreciate the camaraderie, although I almost wish you didn't agree -- I was hoping somebody would convince me that this wasn't so bad and talk me out of my funk. :) Finn never really had a chance with me; I don't have a problem with the actor or the character, but I will never not resent that AP is sidelined and Will's death's impact was lessened in favor of new "male energy" and replacing the requisite het love interest on the show. It feels so GD'd shallow.
It's like high school and the bossy person who is in charge of the form play decided that Archie needed to be brought down a peg, and in a way everyone would notice.
I suppose it's one rung up from being offstage making sheep noises for the nativity scene...
You know, I ship it as hard as ever. And I have much to write still on them...but yeah, if there's a scene I will fall over with surprise. And there is zero point in keeping Kalinda on the show at this point.
What a crappy sendoff she's getting if this is the end of the road for her! :-(
This week's ep felt pretty darn meh to me. Just because Dylan Baker is available to do an ep doesn't mean they *have* to use him. And this just felt completely repetitive. Yep, Sweeney is a skeeve and he gives Alicia the heebie jeebies -- we know all this. Oh wow! And it turned out to be even worse than Alicia expected -- just like it always does
( ... )
Pretty much all I got is...*sob* And not in the 'it hurts so good' kinda way.
I don't really like losing my ship, but I can kinda deal with that - I've long since realized that 80% (at least) of the 'ships I find interesting on any show that I watch are at some point going to be effed with in a way that I do not support. So I can console myself and live in fandom if I have to.
But I feel like they are butchering story arcs for entire characters that I love; destroying ALL of what I find endearing. It's not cool. Kalinda may as well not exist - I mean really what's the point. The season of Cary has pretty much come and gone without all that much Cary (and I don't even lurve him). All for what? A dose of Colin Sweeney? Owen? MJF? Veronica (next week)? A complicated, drawn out build-up with no real satisfying resolution? THAT has become the RKMK trademark and it's such a waste.

It really does feel like we're back in that territory doesn't it? I thought they executed Alicia's firing ep excellently and did a great job of Will's death for that episode and the two afterwards. But it now it's back to TGW tradition of wrapping up long term storylines (NSA for example) with little payoff and zero consequences.
What the hell is a filler episode like this doing 19th in the season when we only have 3 to go? Seriously!
