Hello, Breakfast Club! Let our weekly cryfest commence.
I was not terribly engaged or entertained by this episode, even though I typically find Sweeney at least mildly amusing. It's like I've become desensitized to the LOL WEIRD SEX STUFF AND MURDER shtick, and without the hope of my fave characters interacting to sustain me, I mostly multitasked through it.
The main characters have apparently moved past Will's death to about a 90% extent (10% = Alicia lip quivering), and it feels too fast -- maybe we'll see more with Alicia's attempts to date next week, but who knows. I crave more emotional fallout and am not sure that I will get it. I liked seeing Owen but for some reason didn't experience his heart-to-heart with Alicia as being as meaningful or important as the ones in the past. I am having trouble caring about Finn, feeling as if he exists to simply distract us that Will is gone. I am uncertain of Peter's motivations for endorsing him. The end, with Renata nonchalantly spilling her guts to Alicia about her Adventures in Murder just so we could see Alicia's dissonance-face, felt WAY too bad-crime-procedural.
I was amused by Renata's blatant lust for Alicia and, if this were the Kalicia heyday, would file it in the "purposeful pairing of Alicia and gay stuff" cabinet that seemed to show a deliberate priming effect on the audience, but now it feels way too much like silly comedy to show Alicia being uncomfortable.
And we are back to marginalizing Kalinda. Good to know!
All in all, not impressed with this one and hoping for something better next time.
Anyone else more thrilled than me?
