School closing?

Jan 07, 2010 12:12

Are you kidding me?!?!  WTF.  They are dismissing school at 1p.m.  Every county surrounding us is closing early.  IT HASN'T EVEN STARTED TO SNOW YET!!!!!  Not one friggin' snowflake!!!!  Geez!  The people in this area are so petrified of a little snow it's ridiculous!
Stupid people are frustrating.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

frustration, rant, head desk, argh, weather, school, snow

I feel you, but hell, at least you have snow...we have a FORECAST of snow. We need school boards with the opposite philosophies.

Here too...every system around here is closing at 1..since the announcement it flurrie a teeny, tiny bit. You have to wonder about the people that make these decisions. Even if we get the snow they're calling for it's only supposed to be an INCH. Good lord.

AS you know we have snow by the bucket load here and lots of school closures as a result, but in the UK it is down to the school head to make the decision in the light of all the factors involved, including staff availability and safety of journies involved for all concerned. When I| went to school the only closure I can ever remember was on account of the boiler having failed and the school being too cold to work in...in those days a few feet of snow didn't make any difference.

It is the superintendent of schools job here to close schools. The transportation director drives the roads to see how many are not passable by bus and lets them know if it's safe for the buses.
We were hardly out for snow, but I also lived in a county with less mountainous roads. In NJ you didn't get out because there were no buses, we walked so no reason to call off.
