depending on how inquisitive the kids are, can you just get by with "She got hit by a car" or "She was in an accident" and had to go to the hospital? If the prognosis is good, distract them with the fact that she will be ok, and maybe get them excited about her coming home in a few days, but tell them shes going to be recovering. So maybe collect her favorite toys and put them by her favorite place to sleep, etc.
Either way, its an honest mistake. *hugs* your pooch is in my thoughts.
They definately got inquizative. They were satisfied with she's at the dr. until the vet called. Then more explaination was wanted. Is she hurt? Yes. Will she be ok? Yes. How did it happen? She got hurt. Did she get hit by a car? Yes. Did she go out on the highway? No. So it was on our st.? Ummm. Did they catch the bad guy? Me tears.....Whats wrong mommy? Mommy accidently hit Rosie when she was backing up,Rosie was laying behind the car.... Why didn't you let her in the house? They were ok, James wanted to know all about what they were going to do for her, Thomas couldn't take it.

Thanks, I need all the hugs I can get. They won't do surgery until tomorrow afternoon. Boys took ok, Thomas was pretty shaken up, Liz laughed, I think James took it the best. I think I will probably keep beating myself up until she comes home and is as good as she was. :*(

It wasn't intentional, you didn't mean to do it, and she bit your finger in punishment, so she must understand it was an accident, too. =} Tell the kids that she was hit by a car, you took her to the vet, and the vet is trying everything they can to save her. Death is a fact of life, we will all lose someone dear to us eventually, and it is a measure of our humanity how we deal with the grief & pain. =( Use this time as a bonding moment, to come together, to give a group hug, & to pray for Rosita's safe return to your loving arms. =)
I send my most happy-mojo-vibes your way, and in abundance, so you can share then with hubby, the kids, AND Rosita, too. *NuzzleLovin*
I'm glad she'll be ok. =) Now, *HUGS* for you, so you'll feel better... *HUGS* to the kids so they'll feel better... *HUGS* to Rosita so she'll feel better... And *HUGS* to you so you'll feel better, too. =)P
Thank you so much. Unfortunately, it got out, they got curious, especially after the vet called. They were satisfied with she's at the dr. until the vet called. Then more explaination was wanted. They were ok, James wanted to know all about what they were going to do for her, Thomas couldn't take it. They are taking it well, as long as they know she'll be home on Friday, they are looking forward to that.

She is in no danger of dying right now thank God. Not sure I could live with myself if she did. Good idea.
Thank you for all your happy-mojo-vibes, and especially the nuzzlelovin, it's all needed right now. *mwah*
