The Smallville Fandom Creativity Awards* were a great success when we held them the first time in 2012. Though the Smallville fandom has shrunk since its heyday, there are still a lot of very creative people active in it. We (
phoenixnz,
ctbn60 and I) plan to hold a second round of awards in early 2014 to honour works created in 2012-2013. But first we'd like to

What did we do right?
Pretty much everything. I have really good feelings about the awards. I think they were as fair a possible.
What could we do better?
I'd like to see some definitions for some of the categories. What's the difference between and Adaptation and a Crossover? How is PWP different from an Adult Fic? That kind of thing. That way I can nominate more accurately.
I think getting the word out on Tumblr would be pretty easy. Just make a category "Best Smallville dedicated Tumblr Blog" Then all the Smallville dedicated Tumblr blogs will promote it.

Re Tumblr - oooh, I like that. Nothing like being eligible for an award...
Speaking of which, I'm hoping we can come up with a few sparklie gifs or something like that to reward the nominators. I know from my own experience that it was a very time consuming process.

As the people who organize the awards, I don't see why you can't give out special Nominator awards. You're right that in some ways it's the most important part of the process. You can give recognition where it's due without having others vote on it.

2. Agreed absolutely. We somehow have to get all those folks who read on AO3 and hit the kudos button to learn about the awards so they can participate. The art categories other than cover art are almost meaningless without Tumblr particiation.
3. Which ties into your other point - especially if we find a larger audience, who will find time to read through if we keep all the categories? Oh well, we'll figure it out!
And it's going to be 2 years of eligible works, but as you say, significantly fewer are being produced. I'm just going to be going back through the big bangs, challenges and sv-ledger plus any FYC pimping to look for eligible works.
I must say, the whole process gave me a lot more understanding of the Academy Awards and the often debatable results.

This might really be a way to make everything fair across the board so to speak. Of course finding qualified people willing to do this has it's own problems but it might be worth considering.

General participation will be missed; however, that could be restricted to the nominations stage only.

We need to tread very carefully with KSite. They have summarily banned people in the past for pimping competitions on their site, so unless it's done by private messaging to your friends, I don't see how that can be done without consequences.
As the show has now wound down, the mods may be more amenable to allowing notices of such events to be posted on KSite, but we'd need to get permission first. I'd be happy to send Craig a private message asking what the current position is.
