Awards 2014

The Smallville Fandom Creativity Awards* were a great success when we held them the first time in 2012. Though the Smallville fandom has shrunk since its heyday, there are still a lot of very creative people active in it. We (phoenixnz, ctbn60 and I) plan to hold a second round of awards in early 2014 to honour works created in 2012-2013. But first we'd like to ( Read more... )

1. Hmmm, yes, I hadn't really noticed, but the genre awards really were dominated by the het fics. But having seen the actual votes, what often happened was a classic case of vote splitting - first might be Chlark and the next 3 would be Clex.

2. Agreed absolutely. We somehow have to get all those folks who read on AO3 and hit the kudos button to learn about the awards so they can participate. The art categories other than cover art are almost meaningless without Tumblr particiation.

3. Which ties into your other point - especially if we find a larger audience, who will find time to read through if we keep all the categories? Oh well, we'll figure it out!

And it's going to be 2 years of eligible works, but as you say, significantly fewer are being produced. I'm just going to be going back through the big bangs, challenges and sv-ledger plus any FYC pimping to look for eligible works.

I must say, the whole process gave me a lot more understanding of the Academy Awards and the often debatable results.

You know Jen I like the idea of a panel voting on the finalists. it Could be a panel of 5-7 one from every end of the spectrum as far as fanfics in smallville go and they could vote together in a chatroom after reading the nominees.

This might really be a way to make everything fair across the board so to speak. Of course finding qualified people willing to do this has it's own problems but it might be worth considering.

I agree with Carol & Talli; a panel is a good idea, especially if they're able to hold a Skype-like discussion on the nominees prior to choosing the winners.

General participation will be missed; however, that could be restricted to the nominations stage only.

Exactly. It's like the oscars. People can vote for the stories they want and then the top say five or so can be reviewed and nominated. then the panel can pick the final winner. The participation comes from nominating a story you think is worth winning. maybe even picking your top three in a category. Then the top picks get read.

Maybe, but I was thrilled that the Best Romance category was won by a m/m pairing: Shadows of the Past by twinsarein. :-)
