Awards 2014

Aug 26, 2013 09:55

The Smallville Fandom Creativity Awards* were a great success when we held them the first time in 2012. Though the Smallville fandom has shrunk since its heyday, there are still a lot of very creative people active in it. We (phoenixnz, ctbn60 and I) plan to hold a second round of awards in early 2014 to honour works created in 2012-2013. But first we'd like to solicit your feedback.

What did we do right?

What could we do better?

Do you have any specific suggestions (categories, timing, promotion)?

Let us know in the comments or send any of us a PM. Be honest - it's the only way we can make things better. We can't promise to incorporate all the feedback, but we will surely try.

To get the ball rolling, here are some of my thoughts for your consideration:
  • We need to get even more people involved. Specifically, that means getting word out to all the folks who've moved to Tumblr, not to mention people who mainly stay on other sites like Kryptonsite. Any volunteers?
  • We need to improve the nomination process. Nominations are, for me at least, the most important part of the whole process. I was thinking we should encourage people to pimp out the awards and share lists of favorites (both their own and those by other authors). It could be fun to have a "For Your Consideration" banner for this purpose (like campaigning for the Oscars).
  • We need fewer/different categories. Having lots of categories makes the awards more inclusive, but it also makes the voting process more tedious / intimidating. We'll probably wind up playing it by ear based on the nominations.

  • How should we deal with locked or members-only works?
  • How can we make this less of a competition and more of a celebration?

Now its your turn!

Poll

We look forward to your comments!

* I wound up nicknaming them 'Torches' last year - let us know if you have a better suggestion.
