Grammar and werewolves

For the last few weeks, my students have been working on French newspaper articles. French newspaper articles with very complex sentences. (Unnecessarily complex sentences, I should add.) Since most of them needed help to unravel the unwieldy things, I gave them a quick rundown of simple vs complex sentences.

I am not 100% sure I have parsed all that sentence correctly. I think that this is the main bit, with everything else branching off it:

Ce gouvernement est-il rejeté par la France entière ?

It took me a couple of minutes to get there.

Correct! The poor students, the article is several pages long and full of awful sentences like that.

I have over long and complex sentence frustration in my OWN language. let alone someone else's.

That is one ridiculous looking sentence. Why do they write them like that?!
