For the last few weeks, my students have been working on French newspaper articles. French newspaper articles with very complex sentences. (Unnecessarily complex sentences, I should add.) Since most of them needed help to unravel the unwieldy things, I gave them a quick rundown of simple vs complex sentences.
With werewolves. XD
Sure, they didn't need to know the word "werewolf", but it kept their attention just that little bit more in the third straight hour of class.
Just for reference, here's one of the many lengthy sentences in this week's article:
Ce gouvernement, d’abord accepté ou subi, par beaucoup, comme un moindre mal, est-il, en 1944 - alors que, depuis la rencontre de Montoire entre Pétain et Hitler, sa trahison apparaît patente (« Je souhaite la victoire de l’Allemagne », a déclaré le président du Conseil, Pierre Laval), rejeté par la France entière ?
