Third Cycle [Video]

[Gem is sitting outside, holding an umbrella over herself as shade. She is attempting to get used to the sun; she still finds it strange, but it seems here to stay so she will adapt.

Looking at the journal, she purses her lips, and finally speaks]Many people seem curious or confused as to what I am. I thought perhaps I should explain to all; I am ( Read more... )

[That's...interesting. They've never talked until now and her description of herself just caught his attention]

I've never seen a program capable of thought like you are demonstrating. You look almost human as well, no one would think you were bits of data. Is it common for programs to leave the system in your world?

Most have not. Our Creator kept us a secret from the outside world--and he created us in his own image.

[At his other question, she takes a moment to write more. There is a welling up of emotion in her, and she must keep herself in check not to write something out of bitterness.]

No, it is not. Besides the Program who is here, as well, I know of no other Programs that have left.

I see. Then it is only this system your creator has made that is unique?

[He looks at the writing. He can't really tell the tone from it, but it left him with an impression that-]

I take it this is your first time outside the system.

No. Before he created The Grid, he had seen another system. There are possibly thousands...each computer has one.

However, I do not have full knowledge of these things. I am simply guessing.

[Flynn never told her anything.]

It is, yes.

The Grid. Interesting name for a system.

[He's going to think the system is just a grid, but he's sure it's more complex than that.]

How are you adjusting to the outside world? I'm curious to hear what a program thinks of the outside.

He referred to it as "The Digital Frontier."

[At his other question, well.]

I find it both interesting and perplexing.

I am not overly fond of the sun; there are many things I do not understand.

[And Gem isn't one who likes to be at a loss.]

That description gives me a better imagery.

[Not too fond of the sun, huh]

Are you still made of circuits while in this world?

I am glad I was able to help, then.

Yes I am.

I can show you if you would allow this to go to video?

[...] Interesting. If you are comfortable to share.

[Alexei will keep responding back to her in written format though. He's wary of speaking over the journal.]

[Gem takes off her glove, revealing her irredecent skin, and the pulsing white circuitry laying just underneath the surface.]

[...that is neat. He's pondering over having the chance to study this program one day while he's here. She seems just a bit more advanced than what he's used to.]

Thank you. You're not the least bit troubled by my questioning? I worry I might be asking a bit too much about yourself.

[Gem shrugs, her wings falling just slightly.]

I am not. If I become so, I simply will chose to not answer the question.

This is...freeing, in a way. To be away from the constrictions of The Grid.

Too much freedom can be a frightening thing.

[Alexei leans back slightly]

Do you happen to have a name?

I'm not scared. Simply perplexed by things. I have never seen a bird, or a cat, or trees or grass. It is occasionally difficult for my databanks to process it all.

[She isn't annoyed at him, but the situation.]

Gem. My name is Gem.

Good. I don't have to refer to you as just "a program" then.

I'm somewhat perplex to see you can still function outside the system. What energy source is keeping you from, for lack of a better term, "shutting down"?

And do you have a name? Or shall I call you just a User?

[A smirk and a play in turn.]

We re-charge. It's the same as sleeping.
