More bagel shenanigans

Since I've been going to the bagel place at school nearly every day for the past couple of months, I've memorized the price of a bagel with cream cheese. Before the implementation of the HST, the price of a bagel and cream cheese after tax was $2.80, and after the HST, it was $2.89. Maybe they're covering the cost of electricity to actually toast the damn thing. Greedy bastards.

In a perfect world, people would care about this sort of thing. No matter what job I've held, I've taken pride in whatever I was doing.

Most people making minimum wage aren't engaged in what they are doing because there is no motivation - from their employee, from their environment, from anything. They are just there to collect a measly cheque.

So even though you're right, perhaps your expectations are too high, given the current state of affairs.

I guess my expectations are too high. After all, I expect them to toast my bagel!

It sounds like they have increased the price (which they are totally entitled to do) and the cashier just didn't realize. I don't think she is smart enough to try and trick you. As a cashier myself, all I can really tell you is what's on the receipt/what scans into the register. If it appears to be more than before, it's cause "they" (not me) increased the price, or the HST, or both. Even for shit I ring up frequently, I don't bother memorizing prices. And if someone asks me how much one of our common items is, even if I do know it, I STILL ring it into the till to double check (I could be wrong, price could have gone up). I don't really think it is fair to call the employee "so fucking stupid" because she was mistaken about the price increase. It was just that, she was mistaken.

PS was this the same female employee that you spoke about in your last post?
