[KHR;challenge] the end of a reality

Sasagawa Ryohei, Hibari Kyouya

For 31_days. January 30th. the formula defining the concept of existence

"...and Giannini says that there is a possibility that the reality as we know it will be wiped away when Tenth goes home," Ryohei reports. Hibari's head is turned to him, face still pale with pain and eyes slightly glazed from the effect of morphine, but he manages to smirk anyway at Ryohei's worried look.

"Are you afraid, Sasagawa."

The boxer shakes his head almost violently, but the worry does not fade. "I don't know anything about this time paradox shit," he confesses. His unvoiced 'but' hangs in the air for a moment, before he ploughs on. "It's just...I don't know. If we start over, Hibari, we aren't the ones who came from the past. We won't remember this."

Hibari breathes a shallow sigh.

"You are afraid."

Ryohei does not shout in protest, though perhaps it is more out of respect for medical wing protocols and their very angry head-doctor. Even if there was really no one left to brain Ryohei smartly on the head for disobeying the "Keep quiet" sign. He grimaces for a moment, and then says, "Yes. Yes, I am."

Hibari turns back to face the blank ceiling. "It's for a better future," he murmurs. A future with the Tenth. A future with a Namimori that's full of life, not a war-zone like now. "Besides, it's only a possibility."

"I still don't want to take a chance. I don't want to lose this, Hibari."

This, meaning...of course. Hibari wants to say something derisive about Sasagawa being so banally sentimental, but the words die in his throat when Ryohei continues, "But if I have to," and leans over and kisses him. One of Ryohei's hands cups his face, and it's sweet and soft and so unlike their usual exchanges. Yet, Hibari can't remember the last time they had done so, and he finds himself kissing back. It ends abruptly enough, and he barely stops himself for angling for another.

"They are going home tomorrow," Ryohei says as a way of explaining himself, and leaves. Hibari does not stop him. The Vongola has many things to do before sending them back, after all. If what Ryohei says is true, this visit is his last unless Hibari makes it to the farewell, and even so, Hibari doesn't think he'll have a chance to talk to Ryohei. He doesn't know what he'll say anyway.

And maybe it's pre-emptive, maybe their world would remain unchanged even if the Tenth goes back. But although Hibari still feels it's disgustingly sentimental, he licks his lips, and tries not to think that the flavour on his tongue tastes a little like thank you and goodbye.
