Vongola family, Ten Years Later

Note: Set slightly after January 30th prompt.

In the end, Hibari manages to attend the farewell ceremony, even if he has to suffer the indignity of sitting in a wheelchair. But it is only appropriate, they are saying goodbye to their fifteen-year-old boss. Still, the unseen weight of Giannini's report hangs over those who know about it, and it grows heavier as one by one, the people from the past disappear into the glowing portal of the machine, replaced swiftly by their present selves.

Ryohei thinks that it feels strange to say goodbye to a fifteen-year-old Kyoko and hello to his Kyoko, twenty-five of age as she should be, in the space of a few seconds. But it's nothing compared to watching fifteen-year-old Gokudera tell Tenth, "Don't let me make you stay here," and then having their Gokudera stagger a few steps forward before falling to his knees the moment he comes out of the machine, head pressed to the floor and sobbing apologies.

They discreetly turn away when Tenth raises Gokudera to his feet, the words to Vongola's right-hand man too soft to be overhead. Still, Gokudera's grief over losing Tenth all over again is all too real, they really hadn't had the time to properly mourn their own boss, events having moved too quickly for them to do so. Ryohei holds Kyoko close, and is mercifully glad that at the moment she asks no questions.

"Tenth," Gokudera chokes out when Tsuna finishes speaking, and although Tsuna's face is similarly wet there is also a set, determined look in his face, so reminiscent of their own Tenth. Tenth has to go home, Ryohei knows, in order for the future to right itself. But it doesn't make breaking Gokudera's heart all over again all the easier, even as Tsuna gently detaches himself from Gokudera's grip.

"Thank you everyone, for everything," Tsuna says with an unwavering voice, and when he bows, Ryohei cannot help but bow back, as deep as he can go, eyes pressed tightly closed to stop the tears. Even Hibari manages a slight bow, though his face is shadowed. But his knuckles are tellingly white against the armrests of the chair. In front of them, Yamamoto holds Gokudera back as he screams, a long, wordless howl of pain and grief.

The final flash of white light blinds them all.
