What got cut so as not to make the longest post ever

Jan 05, 2008 10:03

Am terribly behind on my fic exchange reading. I was planning on posting more recs, but, yeah, that hasn't happened.

I got my assignment for silentlikestone which I am excited about. Now I just have to figure out what to write. I've got a few ideas already, I just need to stalk my recipient's journal for a few days so I can decide what she might like best ( Read more... )

If you don't mind, I may come ask you to beta this fic when I'm done with the revision. It's ToriShishi and I'm hoping to finish my revising in the next couple days.

Agreed re: complaining. And even if you want to complain, you should complain over IM or smth. Or filter to like, 5 people instead of just a general F-lock *_*
Nobody on my F-list ever complain like that on a general F-lock though so I guess y'all are nice people X-D

I can understand wanting to complain, it's just doing it under a general flock or, worse, unlocked that bothers me.

If I got a fic I was disappointed with I might complain some, but I'd be doing it on IM or in a email to close friends.

Good luck with your fic for silentlikestone! I'll probably sign up for subrosa_tennis this round again, because it's shortfic and there's a long time to get it done, so there's no way I can't finish it before the deadline. You should give it a try as well <3

Also, this might sound like the Atobe kind of thing to say, but if you're having trouble writing narration and descriptions, I could help you, if you like ^^

Even if you don't have a fic archive to link to, if you want to I don't see why you shouldn't attempt the next subrosa challenge. If anything, you can do it for the challenge of the themes supplied, and to see if you can guess who wrote what. :D ( ... )

If someone deliberately writes their recipients' squicks or just doesn't pay attention to the squick list then I think complaining is completely justified.

Other than that, if the recipient's not happy, I think they should keep quiet about it (at least the writer tried, right?) or complain on IM or something. Don't complain in your journal, unlocked (or even under general flock), especially if it's about something that wasn't included on the squick list!

I have been trying to keep this as general as possible so as not to be wanky, but that's what really got to me.

Incorporating the things around the characters as they speak & move rather than just describing the setting separately from the action is what I'm trying to do in this revision. Like you said, it's easier said than done, but I've worked on it a bit more and it's getting there. I'm feeling a lot more satisfied with my attempts than I was this morning.

Setting shouldn't be too specifically described all at once. You can bring in the plants first and then work the chairs in as you go.

I think this is exactly the problem. Of course it's not working because I'm trying to shove too much in at once. Thanks.
