Jason Todd Questions

A couple of quick questions for the DC Comics peeps on my flist. How do you feel about the colour of Jason Todd's hair? Is it actually canon that it's red aside from Batman and Robin? I'm a bit confused about continuity and such. I'm writing a Dick/Tim fic for comicsbigbang and Jason has a fairly major role ( Read more... )

Back in '83 or so when he first appeared, it was definite canon that Jason was dying his hair black to be able to pass as Robin. I'm fairly sure it was back to that natural colour in his recent Batman & Robin appearence.

Excellent, thank you. And that origin is current continuity, not effected by any Crisis? You just never know with DC, lol!

Okay, I am one of the biggest Jason Todd fans you'll ever meet. I didn't read B&R#6 because I'm sure I'd have a conniption and maybe a murderous little rampage. B&R before that made my blood boil (BftC especially did too).

For one thing, he can't go to Arkham. It went boom. There's no way it's rebuilt yet, and if it is, continuity is fooling itself (BECAUSE IT GOT BURNT TO THE GROUND COMPLETELY).

The red color haired is a Pre-Crisis Jason Todd characteristic. There is essentially no way Post-Crisis Jason Todd, who that is supposed to be, has red hair. I love Pre-Crisis Jason (he could have become not Dick Grayson copy, but not the point of my rant), but Post-Crisis Jason had black hair when he met Batman. He lived on the streets. There was no way he was dying his hair, and Grant Morrison lives in his own crackpot world where continuity doesn't seem to exist.

Now, ignoring B&R is rather doable, I think. Even though I hate what BftC did to Jason, it's fixable and workable if you an unstable Jason that they'll try to help. Mainly, in ( ... )

Something tells me you feel very passionately about Jason!

I had completely forgotten about that! And I was just talking about it yesterday. Well, thank god that's not central to my plot!

Wasn't he trying to get the wheels off the Batmobile or something when they met? The red hair thing was a total shock to me because I don't know pre-Crisis Jason at all and I've only been reading comics for about 4 years now ( ... )

Wiki's page on Jason Todd has the basics, and Titans Tower's page on Jason Todd gives more details and an 'essential reading' list too. :D

I may not know canon yet, but I knows where to find it, or something approximating it. ;)

Thank you, luv!

I think what's really bothering me is that I would ideally like to rehabilitate Jason from B&R#6 onwards, but can I do that? If he's killed people and now he's been arrested can I realistically get him out of that? Would it be believable that both Dick and Bruce at least would want that or would they want him locked up because it's too late?

I wants to save him, my precioussssss!

Yeah, I do believe that Morrison was the one who put Jason's red hair back into continuity, but I actually love the change, if only because I'm amused by the disturbing implications of Bat-daddy snatching a random kid off the street and all but forcing him to change his appearance so he'll look like Dick.

But in any case, it's in post-crisis continuity now, so I'd say go with whatever works best for the story you're telling.

LOL, I see what you mean. Still, for me it should be dark! Even if it really was ginger, it was far too ginger, lol.

I'm going to go with dark. Executive decision :OD
