Changing Fandom Tastes

Jul 20, 2008 16:02

I created this journal on the 15th August 2004 after I'd written the first part of my very first Sapnder series From out of Nowhere. It sat vacant for a couple of months while I stared at an empty page and wondered what the fuck one was supposed to do with a Livejournal anyway. Then amejisuto, who I met at one of the auto-archives (was it Step Away from my ( Read more... )

I'm a huge HP fan, but also occasionally read Saiyuki fanfic, and most recently have been reading John/Matt slash (from Die Hard with a Vengeance). Harry and Draco are still my OTP, though, and there doesn't yet seem to be any dearth of great fic out there (despite the official end of the series).

I haven't heard of Saiyuki fic. What's that?

I do love my Harry/Draco fic. I read it whenever I can as a special treat!

Saiyuki is a Japanese anime series, and there are four main male characters. I know about it mostly from my teenaged daughter and her friends, who are anime freaks. I've only read a little bit of this; sans_pertinence being my source.

Oh, not sure about my life story in TV Shows and Comic's which caputured my heart over the years, I am old! Then I only really entered a fandom with BtVS/AtS, and being on-line with them. I also only entered after the shows stopped!

I'm also keen on Torchwood/Dr Who and SPN, and do read Jack/Ianto fic as well. Don't read in the SPN fandom as I am not keen on Wincest, and only gen really interests me!

Snap! I started on Buffy after it had ended. I think Angel was on the 5th season, but I didn't actually watch it until it was all over. Had lots of catching up to do!

Do you read the Doctor paired with anyone?

Oh no, not The Doctor. I date back to the #3 Doctor, and at that time he was never romantically involved in anyone. It has stuck with me, to he is asexual and I cannot see him in a pairing.

Seems it is the newer people who pair him off. Mostly with Rose, which I hate, but have seen some Doctor/Jack or Doctor/The Master running round. Two on my flist have an OT3 with him of The Doctor/The Master/Jack

I agree. Asexual. Although I'm not saying never! :oD

I certainly don't remember anything sexual about the Doctor. I date back to Tom Baker. Oh how I cried when he regenerated. I wasn't expecting it at all. I swore I would hate Peter Davidson with all my heart. I was head-over-heels in a week. Hee!

hmmm...my life story not all that interesting. As of a month ago I could have said that I was mostly a lurker, but I've started getting better at photoshop (more time on my hands to fiddle) and started posting icons.

Here's to many more happy years, Suki!

I'm sometimes guilty of lurking, too, even though I do try not to. It's better to communicate.

Good luck with the icons!

Thanks! Yeah, I'm trying the communication thing. I started the Skipping foundation awards back up (you won the Muse award- Mod's choice) just changed the name and gave it a makeover. I met so many new people just from doing those awards and I missed it.

Here's the link if you wanna check 'em out rwsawards

The awards are looking great. It's that sort of community that really keep a community thriving, so well done!

Oooh, I won something? I must have missed it! Have you got a link?

You're the second person to mention Die Hard! I din't realise there was a fandom for it.

It is a small, but thriving, fandom with some really good writers. I've written a handful of fics and I've made recs on my journal if you're interested.

well, let's see, I first started following Pitch Black fic. I did a search on the internet for information on Vin Diesel and ran across this stuff called fan fiction. I was instantly in love, LOL ( ... )

Wow, it certainly sounds like you've read quite a bit! Vin Diesel! I read a crossover with Xander/Riddick. Nice!

I wish someone had told me about fan fiction long before I found it on my own. I'd never heard of it. And there are still people who don't know about fan fiction. Man what a loss. I'm so glad I discovered it. I have spent many an hour laughing, crying, cursing, and loving along with the characters in the fics I've read:)

I completely agree. My next door neighbour told me about slash fic in April 2004. It was like a hole new world opened up literally overnight. I wish I'd found it sooner, too. I can totally imagine myself back then reading and writing 21 Jumpstreet and The Matrix fic, and probably a crossover of the two!

Thank you for telling me your fandom life story. It's so interesting to hear what others have done and read.
