This sounds very interesting. I think it is an natural extension for LJ and would be able to make use of it myself.

However, I wouldn't want it, if it would be overly burdensome in some way to the system.

Don't tags pretty much cover this? I mean, not exactly, but they sort of fulfill this idea.

Tags do make it easier to find an entry; but applications like wordpress allow tagging and page making and I find both to be useful: while tags let you find related entries quicker, making a page allows you to create one particular page that has information that you can update that has no date/time attached and if you want to create a page with all of the places that you've fished, it you won't have to sort through thirty other entries about fishing to find it. The other benefit is that you would be able to reference a page in an email or at a bar talking with your buddies much easier "oh yeah, go to user.livejournal.com/fishing-sites, Chuck and you'll find where I've been"

I might be the minority here, but I personally dislike the idea. It's probably because I see it as being redundant ( ... )

If you don't mind creating an individual tag for each entry that you want to have an easily remembered URL, you could do something similar. But it

* wouldn't link to the actual entry, just to the tag page
* would make users' tags lists more unwieldy
* is different than how tags are usually used to mark categories

...so there are definitely drawbacks that keep it from being a desirable solution for people who might want this feature.

This would be good, especially for people who want to explain items like filters, friending policies, or other things they end up future-dating posts for.

Thanks :o) And that's part of why I was thinking it would be nice to have. I like to keep a "travel page" going where I list the dates I'll be in certain places and a "contact page" going as well, and this would be easiwer than future dating them, or creating them and attempting to link to an entry that's nothing more than a series of numbers before a .html
