Option to opt out of LJ headers

Short, concise description of the idea
I'd like to option to opt out of the special LJ headers, and instead just see the standard, non-user generated header.

+1 here - given how high-contrast the background is for this month's header, with the text essentially matching one of those colors, it makes some of the main links really hard to read.

Maybe future header-designers should be required to take this into account?

Agreed.

I'd like to see the STANDARD header most of the year -- but the holiday headers during special holidays.

(I hate all these special contest headers...)

I'd imagine the easiest way to accomplish this would be to make a clone of each of the existing site schemes that isn't affected by the rotating headers.

That's why I was thinking clone instead of new and unique. If the only difference between Horizon and Borizon (or Vertigo and Wendigo) is that one shows the unique headers and the other keeps the standard one then testing and code upkeep should be far simpler.

Accessibility issues are mitigated with the Lynx site scheme, and I think we have enough to test without having to introduce something else.

There have been exhaustive posts about why opt-outs aren't generally offered; it just isn't tenable to make opt-outs for everything. If you don't like the new headers, you can use a user stylesheet to override them, or you can switch to the Lynx site scheme, IMO.

Except that Lynx isn't really an equivalent alternative as it is missing almost all the navigation links. It's great for low-bandwidth, but not really so much for visual accessiblity without losing function.

Yeah, my understanding was that Lynx hasn't been updated to reflect current navigational structure, and isn't paid attention to. If Lynx were to be updated as regularly as Horizon/Vertigo, I would be okay with having that as a realistic Plain Jane option.

Um. In firefox or safari maybe, but def. not with lj's stylesheets are those affect only the layout (even the navbar is not as easily changed with them).

Correct me if I'm wrong, though, I'd love to get rid of the fugly header pics with overrides.
