As you know, I really loved 'The Wedding of River Song'. Moffat's intention, like the first question, was always hidden in plain sight: the Doctor and River love each other ( ... )

If I recall correctly, there was mention of a woman saving the Doctor's soul which, as it turns out, is River. I guess that gets up people's noses because they find it demeaning for River. But River is a Force. She is able to fight her way out of her life suit as a child, and as an adult, she is able to counter her earlier brainwashing. To say that she is merely an adjunct to the Doctor, a character who is dismissed because she gives up her lives for him is, in reality, insulting to a character who makes her own choices, always. In fact, I find remarks like that sexist not only towards her character, but to Moffat who's written some strong female characters in this series, as well as men like Craig who aren't afraid to show their tender sides ( ... )

It seems to me that River becomes rather like her father....As Rory is Amy's anchor, her grounder--that's River for the Doctor. The Doctor and Amy are a lot alike: fast thinkers, fast actors....who occasionally need someone to pull them back, slow them down--and maybe bring them down to earth before they get a little too full of themselves ( ... )

It’s but a few hours before TWORS screens here in Australia, and from everything I’ve read about it, I think I’m going to like it a lot, for how it redeems the Doctor. Oh, and because, from the sound of it, it’s batshit insane :). Apparently it doesn’t answer all the questions about the Silence, but I can cope with that if we get a happier, more positive Doctor out of it all.

If it’s really true that some people are upset about the Doctor and River loving each other, I’m bemused. New Who fandom, after all, is highly into shipping, with the Doctor being paired with just about about every companion and major character who’s every appeared in New and classic Who (the favourites seem to be Romana, Jamie McCrimmon, Rose, and (god help us) the Master). Is it something to do with the claims people have been making about this season, that River loses all her agency and has no major interests in life except the Doctor?

I saw a gif on LJ, unfortunately: it wasn't behind a cut, so--there it was. Of River, supposedly being given advice by Jack Harkness to toughen up and live her own life. Throughout the very brief gif, River was repeatedly and only referred to as "bitch."

I found that supposedly amusing gif and its message to be far more offensive than anything Steven Moffat has done.

As far as I can tell, the complainers are looking for something about which to complain. Or they treally, truly don't comprehend the time line and flow of Moffat's episodes. Or, well...the basic plots and characters.....

I’ve just seen the story, and I really loved it; I thought it was bloody brilliant. I’ve never seen that gif, though, and I hope I never do ( ... )

River's only just really become River, and she's head over heels in love--very young and very passionate. And she declares her love for the Doctor, in no uncertain terms ( ... )
