Did that with my youngest. Not in the interest of science though. Black album came out while I was pregnant and I played the hell out of it. (obsessive with music) When she was a baby, I could put the album on- LOUD and she would settle righn down, snuggle up to me and sleep. Worked like a charm. She's 14 and still carries the it in her little portable cd "to go" case.

Oh, and she is pretty well adjusted for her age so I really don't buy the Mozart crap either.

"...Swiss psychologist Adrian Bangerter, found that the Mozart Effect received the most newspaper mentions in those U.S. states with the weakest educational systems-.."

How interesting and sad sign of our times.

I have observed, when playing classical music for Charles, that it's the changes in the music that makes him perk up and listen. So although I never believed it made babies smarter, I think it develops their hearing and/or listening skills. Of course this could be just plain ol' projection on my part. Either way, if he grows up to like classical music, it's alright with me.

And yes, formula companies do give you a classical CD at the hospital that claims your baby will be smarter.
