Hey, people are still talking about "Doctor Spock" in Star Trek. If they can't get that right, given that it's been part of global consciousness for nearly fifty years, I don't think poor old Hans has a chance!
BTW for what it's worth I'm not sure if there ever was a consensus about the Occam/Ockham business - I think it varies depending on your source material. After all, Shakespeare never spelled his own name the same way twice ...
Urk! I know! It's amazing how hard it is for some to understand that just the title can mean it's not the same person!
And yes, people can spell things incorrectly (points at self), but I tend to check names out when I'm not 100% sure. I guess the frustration comes from reading lots of not so good fic in a row. My absolute favourite was a fic where the characters were heading towards a certain city in France, and depending on the chapter, they were heading to Tolouse, Toulouse, Toulose and various other... destinations.

Thank you for the link, you sneaky you. :) I was reading it and went all aww at Kenny. This might be slightly disturbing.
After one comment by Eames in the movie, Arthur really is a stick in the mud in fanon. He has no imagination and seems to only love his guns and/or suits. Of course! It's not like this was the character calling others asshole in the movie, or who got them out of the jam by thinking outside the box... Oh no....
YES! Dear god, did I watch a different movie or something? Arthur's not some anally retentive prim-as-an-old-maid scientist obsessed with tailored clothing. He's quietly badass, which just makes it so much cooler. He doesn't need to bluster and wave his big guns around, he just strikes neatly and fatally. (Clearly he's had ninja training. Is it wrong of me to want Saito/Arthur fic based on that premise now? Or just Saito/Arthur set in the room with all the lanterns? Because omg, that lacquered table is just asking for people to shag on it.) As for no imagination: WTF was the zero-gravity drop about, then? Or the unexpected Penrose stairs?
Eames is the cliched hero of all Brits who Sound Like Spike, with all the 'love', 'pet'
( ... )
The weirdest part of this fandom is that the fanon seems so restrictive. I'm used to weird stuff, from wingfics to mpregs to those terrible terrible high school AUs, but while there's some of that going on here as well, the characters are virtually carbon copies from fic to fic without having any real basis on canon

You're not the only one who is freaked out! I've been slowly working my way through one of the Inception kink meme posts, and fuck me, there's not a lot of kink there. Just reams of "fluffy kyoooot Arthur/Ariadne" and "Eames/Arthur where Arthur is a broken woobie and Eames has to fix him - ultra-schmoopy, plz" or "Arthur's a virgin and Eames introduces him to the wonders of buttsex and cocksucking". And when I read fic, it's just like you said: all the fics start sounding alike. The bases are the same, and they're so not drawing on the movie. Wtf? Is the fandom lazy or afraid of variety, or what? Just once, I'd like to see fic where Eames is the one getting fucked silly by Arthur.

One cast member seems not to get a name-check though.

It's more than slightly disturbing, it's a positive affliction. He needs to be cuddled, rather a lot, by someone slightly taller ...
