[Action 1]

[As dawn sweeps across the blasted remains of Mayfield, you may find a short, fat man dressed entirely in white swaying through the rubble. At first, it might look like he's swaying due to injury and might fall, but he keeps reasserting himself. After a few moments, it becomes obvious he isn't hurt. Isn't injured in the least. [this day is just going from bad to worse, isn't it?

crouched over the body of an unidentifiable male drone, praying that it isn't Venkman, Ray goes stiff.]

And what might that be? [- but to his credit, he remains calm. and then finds something new to pray about: that the man behind him won't see the kitchen knife he's carrying in one hand, concealed under the pile of rubble he was digging through.]

[Luckily for you Ray he doesn't. He's just smiling at you, knife still to the back of your neck.]

Well friend, I've been having a bit of trouble finding....provisions. Perhaps you have some to spare, and if not, perhaps you could spare your arms for a little while to help look!

[surprisingly enough, he isn't afraid. he really should be, but he isn't and that's due to two factors: firstly, because he doesn't know who he's dealing with, and secondly because he has other more important things on his mind than humoring this nut.

but he does keep his hand wrapped around the knife and tries to make his arm look loose, like it's simply hanging slack at his side.]

Sorry. I haven't been looking for any myself. [he adds idly by way of explanation:] Happens when you're caught up looking for your friends. We could all pitch in and help you when we're together, if you wait.

[which he doesn't intend on following through. having a knife held to your neck sort of puts a damper on any potential opportunities for charity.]

[The Major notices the slight tension in the knife arm, but still doesn't detect the knife. He expects Ray might try to hit him or strike him with the loose rubble in his hands, but that's it.]

I am afraid, friend, that I am a rather impatient man.

Even more so, that I could not give a damn about your friends well being. They are alive, I expect, anyway.

Bad habit to keep. [simple remark, but he's so sorely tempted to make it into something personal. so tempted. if that's the case, you should learn patience, you crazy son of a -]

Can't know for certain. [conversational, light, unassuming.] But if it's that important to you...

[and his body relaxes, like he's about to raise his hands in the air in a gesture of compliance. if this creep wants to play dirty, Ray will just have to indulge him until he finds an opening for escape.]

[The Major is quiet for a moment, before backing the knife off a bit. He doubts that Ray is going to truly comply with him, but for the moment he'll make it seem like he's fallen for it.

He takes a step or two back, enough that he has enough room to have a chance at dodging a blow while also being able to lunge if Ray bolts.]

On your feet then, friend.

[oh, no. he isn't going to run. what's there to run to? it's not like he won't be followed anyway if this guy truly means to do him harm, and besides, retreat doesn't sound very appealing anyway. it may have years ago when the odds were clearly against him, but that was completely different. the Major isn't a ghost, and if he has to fall back on using a knife, Ray doubts that there's anything particularly otherworldly about him. he's human - he has to be.

and even if he wasn't, that doesn't change the fact that he might do this again to someone else if given the chance. Ray can't let that happen.

slowly and very rigidly, he rises to his feet. one hand is raised to show that he's disarmed. the other -

well. the other shows itself soon enough when he slashes backwards with the knife, hoping that it buries itself into something.]

[Ah! That was something the Major wasn't expecting, and he's both excited and chides himself for having underestimated the man in front of him. The Major isn't quick enough to avoid it, and the knife cuts across his stomach.

Most people would scream at the pain. The Major? Laughs. It hurts! It hurts and that is so wonderful! That is battle, that is conflict!

He doesn't back away, but despite the pain lunges for Ray, bringing the elbow of the hand holding the knife up to elbow Ray in the face and daze him while his other hand attempts to latch on to the knife arm.]

[there's no intent to kill or even to maim in the way Ray stabs at the Major; it's self-defense in its purest, most animal state, but behind that, there's still a measure of concern. nutty as this man is, he can't bring himself to consciously murder a person, even if that person may just deserve it. Ray isn't in any position to judge. he just wants to disarm the other and make sure that he won't be able to threaten anyone for a very, very long time.

there are two things that catch him by surprise - the laugh which is frightening enough on its own, and the elbow that slams into his face. Ray grunts and squeezes his eyes shut reflexively, feeling a hand graze his arm.

SHIT!

he shoots his leg up instinctively, trying to land a vicious kick into the other man's gut.]

[The Major lets out a whooping, coughing sound as the kick connects. His grip on Ray's knife-arm loosens, but he isn't backing off in presence, not yet. The Major is hardly a skilled fighter, even if he knows what he should do next. He simply isn't meant or built for hand to hand combat on a personal level.

Still, that doesn't keep him from enjoying it, and he smiles viciously as the arm he had been using for the elbow blow uncurls, the knife lashing out at Ray's face, the Major sneering the entire time.]

[and it connects. Ray feels a sudden warmth blossom on his cheek before it erupts into white-hot, searing pain. he's right in the midst of attempting to grab at the Major's wrist to wrestle the knife out of his hand when it happens, causing him to instead momentarily - but helplessly - drop his guard to stumble back at step, clutching at the side of his face with one hand.

if his own hand wasn't slack enough from the prior chaos, it is now. his hold on his own knife loosens and more or less hangs out of his grip as Ray struggles for his bearings.]

[The Major moves a hand to try and swat the knife away before grabbing at Ray's collar to pull the man forward. He smirks as he levels the knife towards Ray's right eye.]

My friend, you've made this much harder than it needs to be!

You've taken my time, friend. And now? I will take something from you.

[And, slowly, he starts to to bring the knife forward, closer towards Ray's eye.]

[stupid, stupid, stupid. and now he's going to pay for it.]

N-Nnngh - !

[his right eye - the blue one - widens so hard that it starts hurting. all he can see is the dull shine of metal, and it's drifting closer by the second. dizzied as he still is by the knife-swipe that successfully hit him in the cheek, he manages to tear his hand away from the wound and, with as much firmness as he can muster, plant it on one of the Major's arms. his other hand does the same as he tries to shove the other man off him.

no, no, no -]

Stop it!

[The Major laughs, almost giggles, at Ray's resistance. The pushing works a little, but the Major has braced himself enough that he has enough leverage to continue pushing forward. The knife is slower now, but still coming. Still inching forward as he maneuvers it to enter from the bottom of the eye socket, giving him a chance to sever it, intending to dig the knife in and back.]

Now now, friend! Did I not give you an option? Did I not give you a chance?

This was your choice. If you wish to blame someone, blame yourself!

[he isn't quite sure which is worse - the burning pain that's still zigzagging up his cheek, or the futility of watching the knife come at him. sure, he could close his eyes, but what good will that do? so, instead, he tries to shake his head and make it harder for the Major to hit his mark properly; it'll be a good diversion while he keeps pushing and struggling. if there's one thing that can be said about Ray, it's that he's a fighter until the end.

if there's another thing that can be said about him, it's that he's very, very good at screaming.

right when he's about to follow through with that plan, he feels a sharp but small prick under his eye. then it gets bigger. and then, before long, it's all he feels as his vision in that eye begins to blur with red and black pinpricks, some more smeary than others. and by the time he feels something warm roll down his right cheek, he's too far gone to concentrate on anything else.]

[The Major's laughter is loud and boisterous as Ray struggles and screams, releasing him once he's cut his eye out. The Major holds the eyeball in front of him, looking it over as if he had found some kind of precious treasure.]

My friend, I must say...you have quiet a nice eye!

[And then he crushes it in his hand, still smiling at Ray. He begins to move in towards Ray again, smiling.]

Perhaps I should take another...
