This has VERY strong language in it.. dont read ahead if you are easily offended.
Owners, do me a favor okay?
If your dog is big and scary looking, don't let the fucking thing around in the middle of the night IN THE COUNTRY. Okay?
Two beautiful dogs were just found on our 5 acre property, a piranea (sp?) retriver cross was STRUGGLING to keep from drowning inside our pool. This dog was easily a couple hundred pounds, it weighed more than I did and from 100 feet away, this thing looked terrifying to me. I couldn't go out and help it, so it struggled for over an HOUR while I tried to call someone to come and get it. I called my boyfriend, my mom, animal control and finally I called the police and told them NO ONE ELSE WOULD HELP ME. It slipped into the pool after stepping on the plastic covering, I heard a whimpering all night, I thought it was just the family dog being a big weenie until it got more frantic, i pointed my flashlight from our porch onto the dog house, she was tucked away inside and then I see it catch something, at first I thought it was a person, then I thought it was a coyote, then I saw the poor thing grasping at the sides and slipping under little bit by little bit with the plastic.
This dog struggled in the water for well over 4 hours, meanwhile its "friend" a piranea german shepard stood guard and walked around I think looking for help. It came up to me on my porch and the look in its eyes are painful. I cried when I saw it, but at the same time, REALIZE something..Your dogs are HUGE..regardless of how nice they look, a stranger is NOT going to walk up to a dog in the middle of the night to help it unless they have some sort of protection - and I didn't.
The noise I heard was agonizing. I had to sit for over an hour listening to this dog whimper, gurgle on chlorine water and moan in pain and there was NOTHING I COULD DO. I don't think I have ever cried that hard in my life.
Moral of the story? Keep track of your fucking animals, if your dogs are that size, invest in a fence. Don't come up to me and apoligize after the police call you to collect them, dont tell me that "electro fences dont work because of their size". Dont tell me you have been searching for them for four hours and DONT you dare fucking tell me this happens often. You fucking sicken me. Your dog could have died, I could have had to listen to it happen. DO you have any idea what that would have done to the people who live here? who LOVE animals??
I swear to god if I see your dogs on my property again, I am going to take it, and hide it away somewhere with an owner that can actually take care of a dog that size.
Im so shaken right now its ridiculous, I don't think I will ever forget those noises.
I just realized people may jump down my throat for not going outside - I'm 5'3". These dogs when they stood up beside me came up just past my waist. Our small dog, can jump and knock me over. These dogs had about..easily 150lbs on our FAMILY dog.. each. There's no way that I could have taken on one of them attacking me or even pulling that dog out of the water myself. It really truly does break my heart that I couldnt have done something sooner. My boyfriend came home and the dog who was not in the water came at him and I was scared for him and my boyfriend is 6'3" and 280lbs. I didnt want him getting out of the truck to be honest with this strange dog standing RIGHT beside him.
**Edit - i was just informed the owner has an ELECTRIC fence and an invisible fence and it doesn't contain these dogs..gee..maybe they need something BIGGER?
