Tattoo Theft! Serious business..

Apr 29, 2007 16:37

stargazer83 got a tattoo based on artwork by Chris Buzelli. She posted her tattoo online and then was stunned that plainjane11 had the nerve to "steal" her original tattoo design! Oh noes! She cross posts about this heinous theft here and here. Because god forbid someone else get a tattoo based on the same craptastic artwork you got a tattoo based on ( Read more... )

Me too, actually. Not sure I'd want it on my arm, but I think it would look cool on a t-shirt.

The second post appears to be locked. I'll leave you to figure out what to do about it.

Gah. Since it's the same post in both communities, I guess I hadn't noticed it was locked in one of them. Mea culpa.

Maybe I'm just that ignorant on tattoos... But why would you care if someone got the same tattoo? Isn't that supposed to be flattering?

I dunno, just seems odd to get so worked up over. Maybe they consider it plagiarism despite the fact it isn't copyrighted.

A lot of times people get a tattoo because it means something personal to them. She loved that piece of art. Then some douche bag is like "ZOMG THAT IS SO KOOL! I'M GONNA GET ONE NOW!" It's very likely that the girl that copied it doesn't even know who the original artist is.

So if she likes a piece of art enough to have it etched permanently into her flesh, she can't love it just as much and want it too?

The complainant isn't the original artist, so she too copied someone else's art.

My opinion on that would be the same as if I had one of Celcies "Puddle Bunnies" put on me some where, and somebody else was like "OMGthatsocuteIwant1twoooo!"

I wouldn't be butthurt... it's Celcies art, not mine, and I doubt I'm her only fan.

If I did have bad feelings about it, it would be to laugh at the other person because "Haha, I got this tat because I have personal connections to the art... I will always love it. The copycat will most likely NOT, and they're the ones who are going to be stuck with it in 20 years XD"

I don't see the stupid at all. I also highly doubt that the girl who stole it even knows who the original artist is. That girl definitely has a right to be pissed, hopefully she feels better knowing that plainjane11's tattoo sucks balls.

Considering stargazer mentioned the artist's name in the post the other person "stole" the idea from, seems likely that the "thief" does know the artist.

No, I know that. And plainjane's looks more like the original than stargazers. My point is she only heard about the artist through stargazer and loved the tattoo and got it done. It's also pretty "wtf" because plainjane didn't post her tattoo in any of the communities stargazer was in and when stargazer found out and called her out on it, she deleted her post.

If you don't think there's anything wrong with "stealing" someone's tattoo idea, why are you gonna try to hide it so much? She easily could have said "It's no big deal! Tons of people have the same tattoo!" She knows it's wrong too.

I just think it's funny that Stargazer thinks she's oh-so-original for getting somebody else's artwork tattooed on her body, as if nobody else on the planet had that idea.

Even if plainjane did blatantly rip off "her idea", she has to get the stick out of her ass and realize that she is not a special, unique snowflake and neither is her tattoo.

It might be different if it was a drawing she created, but I have no sympathy for people who steal something and then whine about thieves.
