I love movies! (but not Man of Steel)

Jun 17, 2013 21:06

Summer is here and the blockbuster movie season began last month. I've seen most of the big movies that have come out so far. I don't get the hype around the new superman movie. I thought it was boring! (so did the other 5 people I saw it with - in fact Brett fell asleep) Yet on the discussion boards I've read most people seem to like it.

cut for spoilers )

I know two people who've seen it who agree with you - it was horrible. Wasn't that the problem with the Bryan Singer version - he was too serious? The movie was too boring? I'm not a big DC fan, but you're so right. Superman's origins have been done to death. But I really think they were going for a reboot similar to the last Batman series. All I know is Batman was written as a serious character from the start. Superman, he always seemed to toe the line between humorous and serious.

Brian singers version was miscast. The actress who played Lois was 25 and supposedly had a 5 yr old son and a pulitzer prize and worked at the planet for a decade...does not compute. There's so much wrong with Singer's version i better stop now.

Superman is earnest not dark and making him dark destroys the character and feels wrong. I agree he's not batman. That's the dynamic. Bruce is brooding and superman is happiness and light

We saw 'Now You See Me' yesterday. LOVED it!

Saw 'After Earth'. Just, NO. It wasn't hideous, but so many gaping plot holes and neither Will nor son Jayden should have attempted any kind of accent. Unfortunately Jayden has grown past his baby cute stage and acting-wise didn't come close to doing a good job.

Despite some issues, I did enjoy Tom Cruise's 'Oblivion'.

I haven't seen Iron Man 2 yet so I'm waiting for 3.

CANNOT WAIT FOR 'RED 2'

I did see "now you see me" and I agree great cast, fun plot and suprising twist. I really enjoyed it.

i liked RED but Karl Urban isn't in RED 2 so I'm not as excited for the sequel :D

They've created a great freindship between Kirk and Spock. We knew it was headed there but the movie did a great job of making it believable. As a life long Trekkie, I was very satified and happy with the movie. When's Star Trek 3!!??!!

The first Hangover was unique but I am tired of the characters so that's one for DVD

I KNOW!! the last view of the skyline looked like a nuke had been dropped. It was crazy. It was like the director loved trashing buildings so much he forgot that there's actually people inside. That's what I liked about Avengers - yes they fought in NYC BUT they did everything they could to at least try to protect the innocent. not once did Superman even think about all the deaths he was causing. That is not who Superman is! Like in the very first Superman movie, he chooses to stop the missle from hitting New Jersey and lets Lois die. Granted he resurrects her but he will always choos to protect innocents over anything else.

I agree with everything you said. This was like, if Smallville, the tv show, was made into a movie it would be like this except with no awesome Michael rosenbaum as Luthor.

Thanks but I diagree that a Smallville movie would have been like MOS. Smallville had it's issues but Tom Wellings' Superman was all about protecting civiliians and he had a sense of humor and great banter with Lois. I do agree that he had a complex, great relationship with Lex that would have been worthy of big screen treatment.

MOS, IMHO, got it wrong on every level. Except maybe Amy Adams as Lois - she's so awesome in everything

Good point. With all its issues, Superman was Superman in Smallville when it came down to it.

There were just so many scenes in MoS that I felt were so reminiscent of Smallville. There was even a time or two when Cavill turned around and I was almost surprised it wasn't Welling.

I can agree with you there. He did have the right look for Superman.

Smallville had a lot of problems (LANA!) but I stayed with it to the bitter end because I loved Chloe who unfortunately doesn't exist in the comic book world
