Stargate:U - seriously they cancelled SG:A for this

After being in Birmingham for most of the week, my DVR was full and I spent most of Saturday catching up. I thought I'd share some thoughts about Stargate:Universe ( Read more... )

I've only watched the first 3 episodes so far. My hope is that with such a large cast that some of them will die occasionally. I also am hoping that eventually they have to make it out of the "unstoppable doom of the week" and get to the point where they aren't just barely staying alive. So far I don't hate it but I don't love it either.

I think that hooking it to the Stargate franchise was a mistake. I think if it was just a new SciFi show about people lost in space it might actually work better. There is a certain tone the fans expect from a Stargate show and maybe that's part of my disappointment. It's just no fun!!

If every episode is the search for water, it's going to get old quickly. I will most likly give the show a few more episodes

I think you're right about the expectations of what a "Stargate" show entails. And this is just totally different. SyFy is probably too scared to just try something that doesn't have a name attached. I hope it gets better since in my opinion it has a lot of potential.

It does have a lot of potential. they just need to make the characters a little less whiney and a little more likable. We need to care if they survive not hope it becomes "ten Little Indians" in space.

I like Rush, and he's the only character I found appealing in the one episode I sat through. I have not watched it since and I don't see me taking time away from anything to do so. I was a latecomer to SG-1 and liked it fairly well, but I was definitely a Stargate Atlantis fan. It's a shame they ended the one to start the other.

Yep it's a show that I'll watch as long as there's nothing else occupying my time. It's certainly not the ''must see, never miss' that SGA was for me.

And as much as I liked SGA, I still was not glued to the TV every time it came on. Right now, there are maybe two or three shows like that for me on TV and everything else is gravy. Especially the month of November. :)

There are very few shows that are on my must see list but SGA was one of them. I really wanted to like SGU and I'm so upset that I don't because I love this universe

The very first episode of SG1 had female full-frontal.

Just saying. :)

Showtime but you're right - they encouraged nudity on Showtime and that scene was cut when the show moved to SYFY

Personally, I am a fan of the lost-in-space genre, which made me like BSG and Voyager. In the beginning. (And technically, SGA was a 'lost in space', which was my initial reason for loving it.) However, I like spaceships, robots and explosions a lot more, so all this namby-pamby whining and character drama is putting me off. Seriously, give me gun fights, explosions and aliens over this personal drama any day - even if the drama is happening on a spaceship ( ... )

Sounds like you gave up on BSG about the same time I did.

I loved SGA but it hit the ground running. The introduction of the wraith was great. In SG:U where are the gun battles and the action - I don't like all the sitting around and navel gazing, either.

I like Rush, I suppose because I'm a fan of Robert Carlyle. I didn't like how they introduced Eli - in a world where you have McKay, Cater, Zelenka and now Rush - are you telling me those four needed the help of an outsider. I didn't buy the premise behind his character.

They need to have some action soon or I'm done

I would like it if they would start to use the stargate more (it's the title of the show!), and if when they actually did use the stargate, Lt Scott didn't always need to be dragged back through. There's no need for him to constantly be the woobie!

I know! This last episode was a repeat of the desert one only with ice planet substitution and heat stroke replaced with crevasse accident, but otherwise the same exact plot.

They need to give me something new - seriously

Reading your review and others has pretty much convinced me I will never watch this show; I'd probably end up throwing things at my TV.
