H/G crack, V/C baby crack

Backstory: Started out in fandom, I was totally meh on H/G. Read some H/G in fic and I was an H/G anti-shipper. Then I mellowed a bit and thought hmm H/G could work in canon. Read all the anti-H/G stuff running around the net, and now I'm hardcore pro-H/G in canon. I still won't touch fanon H/G with a ten foot poll unless it's written by an author ( Read more... )

v/c, hp, h/g, romance, crack

Harry had a monster in his chest (ok probably lower)

I actually liked HBP H/G, though I seem to be the only person in fandom who does.
*points to self and whispers* Me too!

Me too!
Yay! It seems like everyone wanted Harry and Ginny snogging like crazy or lovesick, pink cloud, mushy H/G, or some other horrible incarnation of fanon!H/G in canon. I loved the very clean, simple incarnation we got in canon.

Who are these "everyone"? I guess I'm so busy being surrounded by canon!H/G shippers who were overall pleased with the HBP shipping, I haven't encountered these people of whom you speak.

You're lucky. Seen lots of people complain about the "underdevelopment of H/G" and they aren't all H/Hr's. Then again, some of those same people didn't like R/Hr either, so my bet is that they don't fully comprehend why shipping in the books can't work the way it does in fic.

Brilliant meta, and I found myself nodding at all the points, even though I'm rather indifferent with H/G in general. =)

Thanks, though I made it clear enough that I'm not very serious, right? (The last thing I need is someone to stumble on this post and get all huffy)

Don't worry - it's clear that you're not entirely serious. But it's amusing (and brilliant) to read, and in my opinion, some of those points ring quite true.

Oh, not the only one! The monster was pretty hokey, but I do like the ship.

Yeah, but the monster was the cleanest way to go about things. I'm not sure how comfortable I would have been reading about Harry having a hard on for half the book, or anything similar. Wouldn't fit the tone one bit.

Consider this post a vow to scribe "HBP: Dirty Undertones Jo Really Wanted To Say Outloud But Had To Tone Down So Strict Parents Wouldn't Want Her Impaled"

Sure, and I'll keep you to it. ;)

I already know of a bunch of frum people who were ticked off that HP has romance. HP having that level? They'd get as scary as the fundy Christians. Uh no, I think I'll take the monster and keep the audience wider.

Mind a anti-H/G's opinion? Kthanx.

Proximity? Harry spends lots of time at the Weasley's and he goes to school with Ginny and is in the same house as her, so they generally have a lot of exposure to each other. They also interact a lot because Ginny is the sister of Harry's best friend, is a good friend of Harry's other best friend, and has a growing friendship with Harry in her own right.

My big problem with this would be that this sounds more like something that would apply to H/Hr, than H/G. (Heck, this applies more H/R, and H/F, H/Ge.) Why? Because we have not been given the privilege of seeing the this "growing friendship" between Harry and Ginny. Her suddenly talking to Harry in OotP is it, and that came out of nowhere.

Next is physical attraction? Ginny's been crushing on Harry for years, Harry had a monster in his chest (ok probably lower) because of Ginny, and they dated and snogged. So, very, very likely, they are physically attracted to each other.I wouldn't have minded a growing attraction. Or at least an explanation ( ... )

Note: This was crack in response to crack. I'm actually a firm believer in not using psychology in a lit debate unless you're tongue in cheek or as in this case, using it to respond to claims of psych unrealisim ( ... )
