The Case Against Llivla

Oct 05, 2009 08:23

On September 7, klmorgan reported that her story, A Forfeit of Dreams, had been plagiarized as Game Start on fanfiction.net. ( See the original report for screen caps and comparisons.

When I began looking into the report, I discovered that llivla had used large sections of Mercedes Lackey's book The Fire Rose in her story, Devil in the Wishing Well.

Excuse, excuse, excuse, please forgive me I am suffering excuse, excuse, excuse, random sucking up noises trying to get back in fandoms good graces etc.

It takes a matter of seconds to delete a story. I don't believe this excuse any more than I believe any other. I wish these plagiarists were as imaginative their writing as they are in their excuses.

There's something I've found to be true: good writers don't plagiarize. Once again, I'm proven right.

llivla's whining and excuse-making in her reply makes me want to slap her up. Yeah, you were busy. So are the rest of us. Here, let me play the saddest song in the world on the smallest violin in the world, just for you. [/sarcasm] I hold klmorgan in the highest regard and consider her writing among the best I've ever read. I'd heard mentions from her recently, in her LJ and in an email from her, about something that went on with her writing but I didn't know specifics until now, and this has me seeing red. I'd be shaken and upset, too, if I were in klmorgan's position. I am most definitely posting this report in my LJ, complete with links. I have zero tolerance for plagiarism when I don't know those involved, and even less when I do.
