[ I hope he wasn't expecting quiet for much longer, because a blond with extremely long hair comes running past him to stare at this amazing hedge!

She lets out a loud squeal as she runs around it a few times. ]

Oh my gosh! It looks like.. just like! Well I don't know, but it's shaped and everything! What is going on?!

[Erik blinks in surprise as the rush of energy suddenly makes circles around his hedge-art. His gaze settles upon the girl, and when he speaks he can't help but sound a little amused. Though it was a spur of the moment idea, he cannot say it isn't nice to have it appreciated.]

I was trimming hedges, and decided to stray away from the norm. [His even tone is a nice contrast to her excitable one.] Do you like it?

[ She turns to the voice and nods happily. ]

It looks awesome! How did you do this? Do you think you could do more?

[He can't help but laugh a little at that, but good-naturedly.]

You'd be surprised what boredom might drive one to do. Are you really that impressed by it?

[Rise had been wondering around the various places whenever she had time off work from kissing frogs or making tofu and she enjoyed the free time.

Stopping along she spotted one of a various amount of hedges.]

Is that meant to be a deer?

[Erik read somewhere that people visiting art galleries took an average of 5 seconds to "appreciate" each piece. He mused to himself a little dryly that at least his questionable craftsmanship would garner a few seconds more.]

Or something like it. I'm new to this particular practice.

[Rise stared at it for a while longer, seeing the various bits that make up the deer.]

I guess I can see the shape of the deer, but why trim a hedge like that?

I had no particular reason, outside of boredom.

[He gives the hedge another glance before returning his gaze to the girl.] Would you have suggested something else?

[There's a rustle in the grass, beside the bench, and then there's a small, golden-eyed vixen peering up at him. A moment later, it's followed by an Eternal, rounding a bend in the path.]

[Catching sight of Erik, Polly waves a greeting, pace picking up to make her way over.]

Hi, what are you doing?

[Noticing the deer-shaped hedge, Polly examines it interestedly.]

That wasn't there, before!

[Erik notices the vixen first, of course, but before he has a chance to further acknowledge its presence, Polly appears soon after.

He sits forward a bit, giving a small nod as greeting, paired with a grin.]

No, it wasn't. [He gestures at the hedge.] As for your question, that is what I'm doing - either creating art or just misshapen plants. Take your pick.

[Polly's eyes light up. Anything creative is art, to someone with no creativity of her own. It's a nifty hedge anyway!]

It's art, of course!

[She steps closer, to examine said shrub.]

How did you get the idea?

magnetiferous November 25 2011, 01:21:16 UTC
It wasn't what I would call my idea; trimming hedges to make novel shapes has been around longer than I have, I'd assume.

[He nearly shrugs and leans back again.] I've seen someone else doing something similar. A co-worker of mine, I'd assume.

[Sup coworker?? This young girl here has actually taken up hedge trimming herself! The fellow hedge-trimmer had attempted to stick to typical trimming, she's a Gardener so this surely can't be any hard.

Like him she got bored and started to do shapes with her listed hedges. Some came out looking like pumpkins, various fruits, and at this moment she has gone and trimmed what looks to be a dog!

Satisfied with the results she's about to move onto the next until she spots a hedge she hasn't gotten to yet! She stares visibly surprised, before she begins to clasp her hands together excitedly.] Wow that is really beautiful!

[Spotting Erik she moves over, smiling widely.] Hello! Did you trim this hedge? It's very good!!

[To be honest, Erik had noticed the hedges that were not plain and/or round as he passed by to attend to his own. They may or may not have provided some small form of inspiration to try his own hand at being creative, since he saw no reason not to be.

When Erik is approached by this girl, he doesn't recognize her immediately as a fellow co-worker because he had kept mostly to himself this month. He would, however, notice her work should she mention it.

For now, however:]

Yes, that one is mine. And surely you flatter me; no matter how it looks, I assure you it took far more effort than necessary.

[At least he would assume it did.]

Well I think the more effort you put, the more better and satisfied with your results you are! That's how I usually felt when I took care of my garden back at home.

[She's all cheer and excitement here, beaming as she takes a closer look at the creative design.]

I don't think I could make something like this! I've only done pumpkins mostly, though I did just finish up trimming a hedge to look like my dog Bec! It took a while but it was worth it, hehe. The pumpkins fit what with the holiday coming up.

Well, yes, but I doubt my employer would agree with lessened effectiveness all for the sake of art. [Not that it seems to bother Erik in the slightest, so he gives a small shrug of his shoulders.]

Ah, so you're the one who has been trimming all of those. I was starting to wonder.

[the park's been privy to Charles's sporadic visitations since he walked the same paths with a young Katherine Pierce ( -- a nagging feeling there; dark, dark red behind sheets of not-quite-clear, letters and numbers he can't arrange knotted next to tubes), particularly when he needs a little freshly cultivated air from his stays in the library]

[it's Uni all over again, even if the stakes are higher]

[and the same way he uses air, he uses mental waves -- when the air is stale, one can taste it; when rain is coming, one can smell it. so too can he sense Erik's presence in the vicinity, his unique arrhythmia of thoughts]

[ -- well. he hadn't contacted him on the Guides to arrange a proper meet, but perhaps a coincidental meeting said more than an arranged one. that was how it happened the first time.]

Baraqué.

[when Erik turns, he will be smiling with his hands laced around his chosen book, feet spread apart]

A new hobby, old chap?

[Erik immediately turns his head when he hears the all-too-familiar voice echoing from behind him. He raises his brow in mild surprise, as he wasn't quite expecting to see Charles' face until they had actually taken the time to plan a meeting.

But the look is soon swept away, as he realizes that it does not really matter. A face-to-face meeting, in the calm and quiet atmosphere of the park - anything prearranged could not be more convenient than what was already presented to him now.]

Charles. [And so he merely waves his friend over, to come forward and sit with him.]

A new hobby, at least until the end of the month arrives. A little mundane for my tastes, but it affords enough time in solitude.

[a grin and he's there, spreading arms over the back of the bench and relaxing down into the foreign smell of earth. as always, he respectfully avoids skimming the foam from the top of Erik's thoughts, putting faith in the words that have never failed him before.]

A pity I did not find you during its creation, then. Surely I could irritate you into the snipping of an appendage, yes?

[solitude is never something he wished Erik to be comfortable with -- though that is a futile wish, and he knows it]

[He chuckles a bit as Charles settles next to him.]

I have complete faith that you can. Though I think I could manage it myself well enough, with enough time.

[solitude is a long-time friend, Charles. Not something he so easily dismisses.]

How have you been?
