Could the City at least have had the decency to inundate us all with chess? I feel as though I've been hauled to a family Christmas party and shunted off to a room with the six-year-olds to keep them busy.

Much better. I prefer an apartment that doesn't reek of hops and neighbors who are not attempting to sing when they can barely string words together. Nothing ruins an appetite as thoroughly as beer on your partner's breath ... and honestly, I could have done without the lederhosen.
