Ladies with guns

I'm in the finishing stages of my costume for CONvergence next week, but I've run into a snag: I recently received a lovely little long-barreled pistol (fake, obviously) from a friend of mine that would go very well with the character I'm fashioning, but I'm not sure how to carry said firearm on my person ( Read more... )

Normally I'd do that as well, but I'd prefer a way for it to be easily visible - realism/convenience for the sake of visual effect, as it were.

That is, realism/convenience sacrificed for the sake of visual effect.

The simplest solution would be to just add a belt over your obi. If it was thin and low-slung, it might actually add something to the aesthetic. If you don't want to do that, though, is there any way you could affix a clip to the back of your holster and clip it to the obi? Or forgo the holster altogether and stick the gun directly into the obi?

Well, I think I need to keep the gun in the holster because CON's rules require peace-bonding of realistic weapons. However, adding a thin belt over the obi in place of the obijime might do the trick!

You could make a holster for your thigh and wear it under your skirts.
Another solution would be to create a thin belt that hangs over one hip and attach the gun there.

You didn't really describe what you're wearing up top, perhaps a shoulder harness of some sort (like the police wear, but I don't have the name off the top of my head right now) would work as well.

As one who carries Real World firearms regularly, I suggest that you research what is called a 'paddleback' holster. It has a panel which can be safely tucked into a waistband, or even an obi.
Also possible, a shoulder holster. both of which were used in period by 'confidential agents' of various law enforcement and investigative bodies.
