Albertina fob chains

While investigating watch chains for my young man**, I've discovered Albertina chains - bling-ful Victorian fob chains for women. As this article explains, men's fob chains were sometimes referred to as Albert chains because of Albert's habit of wearing them. By extension, women's chains were called Albertinas ( Read more... )

{blush, cough} We're planning a timetravel themed wedding for early next year (which is to say that we haven't booked anything, but pretty much know what we're wearing) and are both mad Doctor Whovians. When finished, the chain is going to be for that - I think it needs some tiny dice and a sword added to reflect his other interests.

Working class women had something similar (and I can't recall the reference) that would have useful household items like small scissors or keys attached.

I have a Vesta case (as mentioned in the article you link to) which I found at a jewelry sale a few decades back. As I don't smoke, it's more of a decoration. Basically a plain silver rectangle, it goes nicely with my watch chain and watch case (made of nickel, the new wonder metal). :)
