“Assuming,” said Hatter, watching him through kohl-rimmed eyes, “that’s still your wish. Oysters are unpredictable.”
“It is,” said Connor, deciding to ignore both the shellfish reference and the peculiar warmth of Hatter’s gaze.
“Home it shall be. Still, you should try and enjoy yourself while you’re here. Perhaps some tea?”
“That’d be nice.”
“Any particular flavour? Added shots?” Hatter considered his guest. “Scared… excited…curious… Blackberry, perhaps, with just a hint of surrender.”
He came closer and took Connor’s hand. “Don’t worry, little Oyster, you’re safe with me.”
