Hikaru Sulu never thought he would miss how the Enterprise was before they had set out on this mission. It was hectic, without a stable captain, zipping off to do everything at once, his own heart pounding as his fingers raced nonstop on the controls. It had been exciting and terrifying, but it had worked. It had been a helm with so little actual experience, not counting Commander Spock and Captain Pike, and yet it had worked. Now, it wasn't working so well ( ... )

It wouldn't be empty if you felt the same about me as I do about you... Pavel felt his face attempt to twist itself into a frown and forced himself to yawn to stop it. The point of this was to get things normal again, right? Not to reestablish why he was so sad in the first place...

The yawn successfully forced his face back to neutral and he nodded.

"Ah, da, I have heard that lieutenants quarters are much larger than ensigns," Not that his room was the picture of comfort or anything. He glanced away, shaking his head, "It will get better over time, I am sure."

He wasn't sure if he was talking about the room anymore.

Pavel was not so subtle. Hikaru had to pretend he hadn't seen the frown, but he was naturally nonchalant enough to do so fairly easily. It didn't mean he didn't see it though, and keep it in mind. They were doing okay. It could be better, but it could be far, far worse.

"Honestly," He started, scratching the side of his neck not facing Pavel, the side with a nicely covered up hickey he was trying very hard to hide, "I'm so used to smaller rooms, I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I'm thinking of picking up something decorative when we dock. Maybe some seeds, too." Turning head head to look back at Pavel again, he continued.

"Do you have anything planned for the stop, or are you going to hang around the ship?"

Pavel chewed absently on his lip as his eyes followed the paths of Sulu's hand. As he turned his head, Pavel was sure the light caught something against his neck. It looked like a bruise...

Pavel felt the frown surfacing again, more defiant this time, and he bit down harder onto his lip, the fragile skin giving way just enough so his mouth suddenly tasted too much like copper.

It was probably just a trick of the light, really but...No. Whether or not Hikaru Sulu's neck was showing hickies was none of his concern, damnit.

Pavel ran his tongue over the spot on his lip where he had bit down too hard and shook his head quickly. "I do not have plans, no. I will probably stay on the ship."
